I have been coming to this diner for at least 10 years. This most recent time, however, was absolutely shocking. Your workers will make or break you. The food portions were smaller, the stuffed cabbage was good, the mashed potatoes were lukewarm, and our server, Therese, could not have been more rude. She never smiled and never asked us how we liked our food. At the end of the meal, she seemed very put out that she had to give me a larger container than what she originally brought out for the massive roll. She never asked if we wanted dessert. When I told her I would like dessert, she asked me what and I asked her what type of pie they had. Her response, “Oh, Lord.” When I looked up at her and disbelief, she gave a terse, “we have so many.” I’m not sure why a little bit of prep beforehand by writing them down on an index card would have been so difficult. She was not about to tell me any pies so I told her to simply give us the bill. She went on to say that they just have so many pies. I told her again to just give us the bill. She never apologized and never asked if we would like anything else, perhaps of refill of beverages. She never tried to write the sinking ship that she had created. Needless to say, I did not leave her a tip. While checking out, the cashier never asked how we liked our experience there. That was very telling. For years, this place had friendly workers who really made you feel welcome. They engaged in small talk and smiled. I understand having a bad day, but she never realized that she had overstepped the line by being so surly. No apology, no excuse for being so rude. Do you not want to offer people dessert to get a bigger bill and therefore a larger tip? I would suggest retraining this woman quickly so that she is not the reason that you lose...
Read moreWhere do I start? When we walked in, we waited long enough that I had to go find someone and ask them if we were to seat ourselves or be seated. We were sat down at a dirty table that we wiped down with napkins ourselves. A waiter noticed that we had been sitting without having our drinks ordered and was nice enough to come over and get our drinks for us, but one of our drinks had a foil lid off of a sauce container in the cup. When our waitress finally came, and we made our order, I asked her what sauce (ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard) comes on the burger, her reply was liquid cheddar cheese(I can’t make this up). After explaining to her that I did not ask what cheese, but what sauces came on the burger she said she would have to go ask. My elderly mother and I then sat for 55 minutes waiting for our food. As we sat and waited, there was another table that asked for their food to be put in to go boxes because it was taking so long and they had to return to work, another table by us had an elderly couple(80 yrs old +) sat down and they had to wipe their table clean with napkins also. After being seated for an hour and not getting any food, we got up and walked out. Horrible service and glad I didn’t stay to...
Read moreMary B's has always been hit or miss for me. However, tonight two of the staff turned Mary B's into a go to place for me. I unfortunately didn't get the names of the two wonderful staff members.
My waitress was so good. When I get tired I get a bad case of the shakes. Today has been a long, hard but good day I was exhausted. My shakes were bad this evening but she kept checking on me and making sure I was ok. When it was time to leave, I wanted to take my leftovers and my tea with me. She helped box my food and poured my tea into a go cup for me.
I went to pay my bill and the young gentleman (and he was certainly a gentleman.Mom and Dad be proud of your son) paid my tab. I had the means to pay my own bill but seeing the compassion in his eyes as he said he wanted to pay for my dinner was the most caring act of kindness I have experienced in a while. (I will pay this kindness forward).
If you are looking for a good home style meal served with great kindness, Mary B's is the place to go. Please support this wonderful...
