Be warned — this ain’t Subway. Don’t come here looking for a 5 dollar footlong. In fact, it isn’t Jersey Mike’s, and isn’t even LaSpada’s. Whatsub is a totally different experience. Is it worth $15-19 per sandwich? If you are willing to pay for quality… YES. The Philly cheesesteak made on a homemade seeded hoagie roll was flavorful, and somehow light and fluffy. There was plenty of meat on it, and the roll was light and airy, and yet somehow it was moist but NOT soggy when I got it home and started munching. My only regret: I like hot peppers on my cheesesteak, so I asked for them. David said they didn’t have hot peppers, but that he would instead give me some Calabrian chile paste, which honestly sounded even better — only they must have forgotten to put this on, because there was no trace of it.

I went halfsies on two sandwiches, because we also wanted to try their cold subs. I had my eye on the “Fully Loaded”, because I don’t see mortadella on too many menus, but David convinced me to try the Arthur Avenue instead. He recommended it on homemade focaccia instead of a sub roll, and suggested I get it with an optional chicken cutlet added. I followed his suggestion. OMG!!! Amazing. The cuts of meat were thick (in a good way) meaty, slightly oily and incredibly flavorful. The arugula and soft mozzarella added amazing textural elements. And the focaccia was like a cloud, with just a light crisp on the outside.

I ate my 1/2 of the cheesesteak, and despite it not seeming too dense, I only managed a few bites of the Arthur Ave, so I have leftovers for tomorrow. I hope it is still as good, but everything was so fresh I recommend getting only as much as you can eat in one sitting.

I’ll definitely be back. And next time, I’ll make darn sure I don’t walk out of there without getting some of that Calabrian chili relish!

Thank you, David and crew for a great experience and for being such a wonderful host. NOT the kind of experience you expect to get in the back of a small Mobil station.

If you’re thinking about it… go....

This is the second location for WhatSub. It is located on the border of Boca Raton and Parkland on 441 at Marina Blvd (18th Street) in the convenience part of a Mobile station. It is easy to get in and out of because there is a dedicated traffic light.

I've been to the first location of WhatSub in Deerfield. I ate the same Italian sandwich as I had here. It seemed fresher. I also liked that they had a bunch of Italian products to purchase. Here, you can grab Pringles and Swedish fish.

I love the idea of this place and I hope it stays in business. We need an Italian deli in the area. I would go back, but I want to give it a little time to get its groove on.

The space is small, so when I arrived they were frying chicken cutlets. I left smelling like the fry. I think they need a better venting system.

I loved that they sliced their meats to order, super-thin as asked. Their seeded bread was crunchy on the outside and pillowy on the in. You can opt for unseeded if you like.

I wish their brand of mortadella were different. For an Italian hero, for me, there needs to be mortadella. Whichever brand they use, it's off-color; not rosy pink. It threw me off. I also wish they offered a red wine vinegar dressing. Balsamic is not what I wanted. I forgot to add spicy mustard, so I added some later. Instead of shredded lettuce, they use a piece of lettuce, which is me just being persnickety, but a hero with lettuce, in my opinion should be shredded iceberg, not some wilted piece of romaine.

There's plenty of parking and a couple of cute tables outside to eat. The help were informative and genuinely happy to have my business.

On the house soft drinks come with the order. I'm not a Pepsi fan...

I came to this place to pick up an order. The order wasn’t ready, but they asked me to mark in the app that I had already picked it up. The order still wasn’t ready. Then the seller themselves pressed the button on my phone to confirm that I had picked up the order. I asked, “How could I pick up the order if you haven’t even prepared it yet?” and I smiled when I said that. Later, when the order was finally ready, I picked it up and left. After that, they gave me a bad rating in the app. Very incompetent staff and very poor customer service.

Since there is no way to reply to you in that app, I have to edit my first message and add more details. First of all, what 45 minutes are you talking about? That’s impossible! The order was not ready when I arrived, and I had to wait until it was prepared — that’s the second point! And third, you pressed the confirmation of pickup on my phone, but the order was still not completely ready, and after you pressed it, I had to keep waiting until you finished making it. Because of this, you gave me a 👎 in the app!

Don’t you find this a ridiculous and foolish thing to do? You made me wait while you prepared the order, but you gave me a bad rating for that! Here I gave you this rating for such an attitude, and so that it’s clear: if a driver cannot respond in the app he works through, he...

Edited after owners reply: David is a super nice guy, i ordered the wrong sandwich online so he called me to correct it (would have be better off with my mistake) , that was very unfortunate for me as the chessesteak was horrible with little to no meat, its not rib eye either! I also ordered the Arugula Salad which was really good. ----------------------------- Edit for reply to owner , did you see the picture i posted there is no way there is 9oz of meat on here if so then its not enough (i call this a bread sandwich) and quality meat is not Rib Eye which all great steaks are made of and since you wont live up to that we will not return sorry but we do wish you success.
