OK, first the bad and then the good. The bottom line is, I'd go again.
Although Google Maps knows where the place is, my GPS refused to accept the address. So I gave it a map location visually, and that got me close enough.
I arrived at twilight and the signage visible from Rt.46 was not visually striking. If the GPS didn't say, "You've arrived at your destination," I might've driven past it, seen the sign over the door that you can't see from the road, and had to turn around. Twice, 'cause New Jersey is famous for its divided highways that make locations accessible from only one direction.
The parking lot was full. I'd arrived, it seems, at the tail end of the dinner rush. Inside, my first impressions were of sweat and, maybe, damp. Let's blame the dinner rush for that. There was a fair amount of debris and litter around, again, from the dinner rush. By the time I finished my own meal, the staff had tidied things up considerably.
The dining room looks small. Well, it /is/ small-ish, and the impression is sharpened by the tall barriers between booths. There is a second dining room, also small-ish, that you have to pass thru to get to the bathrooms.
Ordering was handled by a friendly staff person. It took a while to prepare my burger, leaving no room for doubt that it was prepared to order. The toppings bar was fully stocked--even at the end of the dinner rush--and with some of the freshest-looking toppings that I've seen at any Fudds, lately. When I asked for a few more fries (to save a return trip), the server filled an entire basket!
I asked for a medium burger and got exactly what I hoped for. Not, as often happens, overcooked to remove any tinge of red. Good flavor, too. It's been a while since I had a Fudd's this good.
In the refreshments area, this Fudd's had fresh lemon chunks. It's been years since the (nearby) Fudd's in Roxbury stopped providing those. Big plus. Sadly, the Coke tasted like Diet Coke. I don't know, the way those machines work it's next to impossible for the employees to load it wrong...so maybe it was a bad batch of concentrate? The Dr. Pepper tasted just fine.
So, the bottom line is that both the exterior and the interior don't work to the advantage of the restaurant, but the food sure does.
Now, if the gasoline was as cheap here ($3.33) as it is around Roxbury ($3.11), I'd make this my go-to Fuddrucker's oasis for all my trips thru the middle of New Jersey.
PS: a final word about pricing. Used to be, two could eat, with sodas, at Fudd's for maybe $15-17 dollars. My meal cost almost $17 for just one person. Prices surely have gone up a lot. FWIW, the 3-for-Me deal at Chili's (burger, fries, soup, soda) is only $14 WITH TAX AND TIP! Yes, a good Fudd's burger is better than Chili's, not to mention the toppings and fries...but there's no Fudd's within several hours of...
Read moreThe atmosphere and service was great. The food did not always hit the mark. I ordered a Nashville hot chicken sandwich which I have to say was not spicy at all. When I order crispy chicken, I want a crunch that is powerful full or spice and flavor. This crust was a bit crunchy, but light and airy. It didn't give that homestyle feeling to it. The chicken was a very thin piece. The higglight of the meal was the smallest tiniest acoop of coleslaw they could put atop thw chicken. It was flavorful and truly has an amazing zing. Although.. it was lost in the large quanitty of sauce. The sauce was good, not anything amazing but basically the entire sandwich was smothered in it. The bread was fresh, fluffy, but HUGE the roll was 4x bigger than the chicken on it. The buns have sesame seeds, in a small patch on the top. So my significant other who is allergic had to take his burger off the bun. It was a thin burger as well but he enjoyed it. He said it was nothing special. They had an amazing toppings station. With pickles, onions, tomatoes, lettuce, cheese sauces, and condiments. They advertise all you can fries to hike up the cost, which their fries were fabulous, but the bread on your entree will be so big your stomach won't be able to fit another basket of fries. Overall, I...
Read moreSaw a commercial the other day for Fuddruckers and it brought back many memories I had at the Wayne Location that had been closed for years. I decided to Google and to my surprise I stumbled across this place I never knew was here. I couldn’t believe how close it was to me.
The Burgers were incredible. What’s even more impressive is not only are they true to size but they were cooked PERFECTLY to our liking. That’s hard to find nowadays. We had 2-1/2 pound BBQ Bacon Burgers and one Guacamole Burger.
Soda Soda Soda. Any flavor you can think of. Do yourself a favor and finish with a chocolate soda. It’s a dessert by itself. The fixing bar was always full and being replaced as were the sauces. The place was very clean and the employees were TOP NOTCH. Friendly professional and enthusiastic. They really go out of the way to ensure you have a great visit. The bottomless fries are also fantastic. Service was super quick with everything. They do a very good job here and I cannot wait to go back. Thanks guys!
Update: Probably the 20th time I’ve been here since I originally made my review. This place has only gotten better. I hope they stay in business because I cannot live without them at this point. Also, The Black Angus French...
