Burrito Express — Restaurant in Pasadena

I was walking around and kind of just randomly stumbled upon this place and decided I'd give it a shot, as I love trying new Mexican places. I'm so glad I did because this is my new favorite place!

The location is super small, but still has a few tables inside and a couple outside, which seemed clean when I visited. Definitely had a hole-in-the-wall vibe, which I love, personally. Employees were masked, which I also appreciated.

The lady behind the counter was so friendly and had such a welcoming demeanor. I told her it was my first time trying the place and she informed me they were known for their beans and their shredded beef, so, of course, I had to try both.

The menu is just big enough, and offers a nice selection of things at very reasonable prices. They also have pre-made burritos that you can buy to-go, which I thought was a very cool idea and a nice plus!

I ordered the bean and cheese burrito, a hard-shell shredded beef taco, and some chips and salsa on the side. The shredded beef was really good {I can't wait to go back and try it in a burrito), but the bean and cheese burrito was the real standout here. DELICIOUS. I absolutely love a good burrito and am always on the hunt for the right experience and I think the search has ended.

FOOD POISONING !! Don’t eat here . I order chicken burrito and carne asada burrito paid by card , and my friend and her mom order carna asada burrito each . I ate 1.5 burrito and my friend and her mom ate half . We didn’t eat nothing else all day . The same day of same night I had dierriah and vomit all night . My friend and her mom got same symptom as me but the next day . Me and my friend were planning to drive to Los Angeles the next day for moving but we had to go delay till we felt better . We were dying vomit and diarrhea . We try to stop it w over counter meds . After 2 weeks later once move in is settle down , we called this place and report what happens to the lady who answered. She told over the phone that we were playing around and reported too late . She said someone will call back because she doesn’t know how to handle it . Still… no call back . I sent text message of my transaction of card that tells what time and date exact w amount since I pay by card . And still no response . We would report to food safety place ..this place did not even apologize or try to solve problem but accused of us that we were playing around ….. very unprofessional… if u have big important the next day don’t even think to come eat here . U will be on bed all day vomit...

This was my go to burrito place. I've lived here since 2017 and it took me a couple years to find Burrito Express. I would go there once a week for the Ross Perot - what an amazing burrito.

All was great until I saw my doctor. High blood pressure! You see, I'd go on 15-20 mile hikes on the weekend (up in the mountains all over southern CA). I thought I could eat anything I wanted, because I was burning it all off. My doctor told me otherwise. So it's been a little over a year of no pork, lard, minimal vegetable oils and deep fried foods. Well ... I've had a little here and there, but I had to cut out almost all the Mexican food.

In the past year, I think I've only had three Ross Perot's and I'm super sad! Everywhere I've lived in So Cal, I've had my go to burrito joint.

By the way, the staff here is phenomenal! Great people, friendly, caring and they make a great burrito.

I'll be by for my quarterly burrito soon. I just wish I could go back to eating one every week!
