I started buying cakes from El Bolillo on Wayside since I tasted my cousins wedding cake 7 years ago and loved. When they opened the Pasadena location I was so happy because I only live a few blocks away. Boy is the Pasadena location the worst. I ordered a cake for my daughters high school graduation and I asked for colored cake they said they can't do it. I told them I do not want any sprinkles and they put them on the cake. The cake was not ready on time when I went there to pick it up and I had to wait about 30 minutes for it to be ready. The diploma design I asked for looked horrible. And there was a random line on the cake. I talked to Mariel and she only gave me a small amount of the payment back. I left them examples of exactly what I wanted and they still messed up the cake, when I picked up the cake they said they were not given the examples. Before I left i was told they found the examples and they dont know why the decorator didn't go by the examples. The colors were way off. I asked for the plastic cap to go on the cake they didn't put one on it. I gave them another chance and ordered my other daughter a baby shower cake and again gave them examples of exactly what I wanted and they didn't make it as I requested. To make matters worst I ordered white cake and they made a chocolate cake. One of my family members is allergic to chocolate so they could not enjoy the cake. I tried contacting them and got no where so I emailed them, sent a Facebook message nothing no response from them at all. I went up there and they wanted to give me a ridiculous amount back after messing up another cake. So now I go to HEB for my cakes. They taste better. El Bolillos cakes are not moist like...
Read moreI was craving for tamales and was passing by El Bolillo bakery in Pasadena. I stopped to buy the tamales since they were feature in "eat like a local" program on channel 2 and were recommended. I purchased one dozen of their pork tamales at $ 17.95 the dozen , I did not mind since I though were going to be hand made and were recommended on the TV program. I got home and open one one of the package and I was extremely disappointed to find out that the tamales were machine made and not hand made. I'm of Mexican descent and I know machine made are never the same as hand made. They are not filled the same and they do not taste the same. Machine made typically sell every where else for around $ 10.00 to $ 12.00. I guess the owners of El Bolillo want to retired as quick as possible by selling food at an exorbitant price, which by the way the same was for their bread. At the counter I paid for the tamales and bread and the register lady baged the tamales and bread left if in the counter, left without saying anything so I grabbed the bags and left. I was followed to the parking area by a another customer that was paying behind me, with the salsa for the tamales that the lady at the counter forgot to give me or communicate with me. I will never patronize El Bolillo Bakery again, I had a bad experience in the quality and price of their food and not friendly people. I urge my fellow consumers to shop for quality and pricing for both tamales and mexican...
Read moreDECICED TO TRY AGAIN BUT WITH REGULAR MARBLED CAKE AND CAJETA FILLING. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!!!!! IM SO ANGRY. We just cut a slice to taste it but threw it away!!! THE BREAD WAS DRY AS HELL AND IT TASTED LIKE YOU KNOW HOW YOU GET THAT REFRIGERATOR taste sometimes.... Well that's how the bread tasted!!! THE FILLING TASTED HORRIBLE and only the very middle part of the cake had fillng. We didn't even eat the cake!! I'm just never going to buy absolutely nothing here again. Not even the pan dulce.
People please just don't buy your cakes here all the rest of the pan dulce is great my fave bolillito with cream cheese and jalapeños, but the "3leches cakes" do not buy. They are extremely dry!!!!! I literally just bought one yesterday 3 leches and only a small part of the cake was actually wet. The rest was dry as hell, very unpleasant. I guess they don't care nor does the owner about customers complaints on the dry ass cakes they are selling to people because hello I'm a recent customer with the exact complaint as all the others before me. I was hesitant about buying the cake but it was a last minute thing. I do have to say though, they did have it done on time the same day I ordered it and it was well decorated. To bad it was very sad to eat because again how dry it was.... I will never buy cakes her again and they should stop selling and promoting 3 LECHES CAKES BECAUSE THAT IT NOT WHAT YOU'RE GOING TO BE PAYING...
