This Indian restaurant was one of the better ones I've been to. They offered all the traditional items, but also some things that are new to me (such as the Yak dumplings). We have a lot of Indian restaurants in the greater Houston area, and many of them are top-notch establishments, but this place was better in several ways. The lamb was cooked wonderfully, which is not always the case at many Indian restaurants I've been to, and the other proteins were cooked perfectly as well. The staff was fast and friendly, the location is nice, and overall we had a great time. One of the managers (or maybe the owner) got a bit too excited about me providing a Yelp review, which I did. But he seemed to be a bit too pushy about it. Not sure what that's all about -- I guess they have to get a certain number of high reviews each month in order to maintain some listing, or what-not. I gave them much deserved high praise -- but it was just odd that they were so pushy/eager to have the reviews on Yelp. They even offered to extend my parking garage validation if I agreed to provide a good review (this was something I didn't like -- because the place is good enough that they shouldn't have to bribe people for good reviews... it will get good reviews because it is really good). Sadly, the parking validation didn't work for us so we ended up paying full price for the parking garage. Maybe we were at the wrong garage? In any event -- it's a great place, excellent food, and friendly people (aside from the overly-excited-about-Yelp manager). :) We'd go here...
Read moreOK...so why give it a 2 star? The four who ate here had lived in Nepal and India and had all worked there. So our expectations were set at authenticity. The jalebis where not jalebis, but three small half inch wide donut ball soaked in sugar water. The chow mien barely covered the plate and was sweet sour and sadly were soaked in wet vegetables, so mushy. I have never seen such a small plate of chow mien in any restaurant in my life, nor is chow mien usually soaked in liquid. The okra was a massive disappointment, as it was served semi-raw and did not have the usual depth of flavor by any stretch. Should be called stir fried okra, so if you like semi raw okra this is the dish for you, but okra tastes awful when it is undercooked. That was the dish I was really looking forward to. The plates themselves are small, so the small portion of stir fried rice at the cost of a meat dish could not be shared, and would nicely feed one and you pay a lot for it. The nan was very good, and the best thing on the menu was the oven baked tandoori chicken. The curries were small, with minimal sauce but flavorful, so if you wanted to mop up sauce with the nan you were out of luck. The appetizer dumplings were undercooked and raw at the top (so roughly 1/4 raw at the top) but the sauce they came with was tasty. The beer was good. We asked for chop sticks and were told they didn't have them as this is Nepal...well, we all ate at restaurants in Nepal with chopsticks....so not sure why the...
Read moreSmall restaurant with various South Asian dishes. I’ve came here before pre-covid a couple of times, and was always impressed by the friendly service and delicious food. They’re currently open for takeout during covid, so I decided to order some takeout on a Tuesday night via their website.
The yak momos were a favorite of mine, and though the meat itself is a bit dryer than your typical beef, it’s flavorful. There’s 8 in an order, and the momos are accompanied by a creamy spiced (not spicy) sauce. My sister and I split a non-vegetable thali as our entree. We chose the chicken masala (sweeter than your typical masala and super creamy) and enjoyed the curried, garlicky cauliflower, lentil soup, basmati rice, and naan that it came with. They didn’t give us utensils, so if you’re planning on eating your food in a park or something, you’ll need to bring your own.
Paid street parking is available and might be hard to get on a weekend. If you’re going to be in the area for a while, I’d suggest parking in a garage and paying $6. There’s plenty of vegetarian options available. Bathrooms aren’t open to the public during covid. Overall, I can’t wait until the place is actually open for dine-in, but takeout does suffice for...
