I have to be fair and say that the hotel has been renovated and is very very modern looking . Maybe four to five floors high... kinda of squashed between other high rise buildings on a hill area. Very large reception area with one or two people at the desk 24 hours. It is a basic but dressed up style of a basic hotel. beds are comfy. Some hotels have a gift shop with sundries that you can buy. They don’t have anything except for a book case area with packages of pretzels candy and a fridge with some cold drinks. They charge you on the card for these. They also placed some games like clue and monopoly that are made of wood . One customer was looking for Tylenol and asked me if I had any. It has a very “ sterile “ feel. Service is like the basic hotels in towns that aren’t service oriented. It doesn’t feel warm and inviting. One thing I didn’t care for was the automated doors. You have to have a card to wave in front of a black disk to even enter the front doors. When we went to park underground we weren’t told this. Fortunately the front desk girl saw us and allowed us into the hotel lobby. Also, they give you a parking pass or they charge 25.00 if you don’t display it in the vehicle. So we had to go back to the car to place the pass rather than having the parking lot man do this.there is no valet for parking as you just drive underground yourself. Also , when we tried to take the elevator from parking to the reception area we couldn’t get into the glass encasement because you need the card to pass through. So the parking lot guy told us to press some button so they let you in. It such high security it feels like Guantanamo. You need to pass this card to get into the hotel, to open elevator doors , before you press the button for the floor you want to go to or you just stand there , to get through the pool area doors ( poor signage down a long small hall way on second floor , but pool looked pretty) , to get into your room and I think to get into the bathrooms in the hallways. It seems corporate has Eliminated the people . I guess the hotel could be 100 percent automated. It seemed very clean and tidy. They have a lovely bar and sitting area but not very quality service as there are few people there. The front desk People are inexperienced and young ... not their fault .... but if you need something they won’t go out of there way ... you're on your own. They can answer most of your questions. Price is justified because it’s Pasadena . Other customers seemed happy especially if it’ is for just a few nights . Good location.close to mall a few mall restaurants and close to Hilton hotel. Beds seemed very comfortable and they have a nice L shaped couch . Bathroom is tight and small . Rooms a bit on the small side more long narrow. Window looks out on the construction site. Typical hotel. Great for short stays if the lock in - out thing doesn’t bother you and the lack of human Iinteraction. Reminds me of a hotel for people that just want a place to sleep because they are going to work in the morning. Other than the pool it’s not a hotel to hang out in....
Read moreHotel has six floors but when booking online for a room with a high floor, they charge an extra fee. Fortunately I called the hotel to ask preliminary questions including the number of floors, so don't be fooled by the deceptive online charges for a "high floor". I did splurge for the balcony room since I like the fresh air and I am glad I splurged on that. Too bad the weather was not warm and sunny, especially for an outdoor concert!
Room with balcony was nice but fridge was off or not working properly. Fridges in rooms should never be turned off because they take forever to get to a cold temp...so for us, our food spoiled. Front desk somehow made it my fault for not reporting it earlier which is dumb. Since it was after 1am and it being completely off when we checked in, there was no way to know if it was working properly until morning. Called Front Desk for more blankets and was told I had to come downstairs to get blankets, apparently they don't bring to the room. I'm not sure if that's because of the strike or because of it being late after midnight.
Lobby, sitting and business areas was very plentiful and contemporary in style. Not much for private sections though especially business center area. Pool area was nice, but don't know if the pool was warm enough for this time of year (Sep 30) but there were people in it in the morning so it must have been alright.
The hotel itself seems to be in the business district of Pasadena. There are no restaurants especially fast food that was close. Nothing in walking distance except Starbucks and the staff didn't seem to know of any places to eat late at night. They didn't mention that Ralph's was close but it is not in walking distance so it needs to be driven to (especially at night). We were able to get food for our room before Ralph's closed...which was a bit of a waste due to spoilage from the fridge problem noted above.
Parking was convenient and was underground but you have to have a key to get inside the elevator from garage. Make sure you checkin before you park so you can get a pass for your car and the hotel card key to get into elevator from parking garage. Their front entrance doesn't accommodate many vehicles so I'm not sure what they do during peak checkin times.
Even with some of the slightly negative comments noted here, it was still a very nice hotel. The items noted are for the picky "Monicas" (Friends) out there to make their...
Read moreMy husband and I stayed at the Hyatt Place in Pasadena, this past Saturday, July 15. My husband and I are involved in a few Orchid Societies. My husband is also President of a couple of these societies and as such comes hard work. My husband as well as some of our friends/ colleagues put on a symposium every year, at the Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens, which is in Pasadena California, approximately 10 minutes from the Hyatt Place. My husband and I are loyalty members with Hyatt. Last year we made it to Explorist which had some great perks with Hyatt. This year we are only Discoverist with Hyatt thus far. I hope we are able to at least make it to Exlporist again this year. I had spoken to Thomas at the front desk a couple of times prior to our arrival. I explained to Thomas , why we’re staying at the hotel. I wanted to make this stay special for my husband as it’s a lot of work to put on a symposium, both leading up to the symposium and the actual event. Once I explained this to Thomas, he took this and ran with it. Once my husband and I entered the lobby we noticed how pretty the lobby and restaurant were. I was happily surprised to know that there is a restaurant at the Hyatt Place in Pasadena, and they are open until midnight (at least on Saturday evenings) We had a planned dinner that evening, so we didn’t eat in the restaurant, but this is good to know for the future. I also liked the fact that they had coffee in the breakfast area. Since this is a Hyatt Place, we got free breakfast.’ When we got to our room, my husband and I noticed how nice our view was. I know my husband enjoyed the view because he took photos from our room,, the next morning. I wish we had more time to check the pool out, hopefully we will have more time next year. My husband and I felt the Hyatt Place in Pasadena was a great value.‘This is because we used points, and the amount of points were very minimal and also because this is a nice hotel with great staff. I think Hyatt Place Pasadena, California is going to be our home away from home during...
