Tri tip sandwich is excellent... Well seasoned, cooked just right, sliced properly, and stacked high. I assume the other sandwiches are top notch too, like when the Stein's Deli was operating several years back. I look forward to new BBQ places in North County. However, no one has nailed ribs and chicken (like Old Country Deli in SLO used to). Unfortunately, neither has Stein's... yet. The baby back ribs were undercooked. I could tell whoever cooked them did not get started early enough to take the time necessary to get the ribs thoroughly cooked. I had to take the baby backs home and cook in my oven for 20-30 minutes to achieve the optimal temperature/chew/texture. And mind you, I like a little bite to the ribs, not falling off the bone nonsense, but these were simply way underdone. Though they had a proper smoke ring... Anyway, it's too bad. Leaves me very trepidatious about trying the chicken, as the connective tissue and joints should be at least partially dissolved (hint: please give the meat enough time to cook, yet stay juicy... It's not impossible). I can't say I enjoyed the dry rub flavor either... seemed like cinnamon or clove or caraway or... something. Not horrendous, but not something I crave either. Still, go in and try it out. Great sandwiches for sure. Nachos and other items looked killer too. I'll give it...
Read moreThe food was decent. I paid 27 bucks for the 2 meat platter and 2 sides. we picked the smoked gouda mac and cheese and salad.(dollar added to have a salad as your second side option) the food came with the 2 meats your 2 sides, 2 pieces of grilled bread and a huge pickle spear. the mac and cheese was very saucy (not always a bad thing ;) but a bit too soft in texture so it was a bit one note. my daughter and I picked the citrus ribs and the tri-tip. We received a good amount of tri-tip and I believe 6 ribs. The tri-tip was easy to cut through and not dry at all but could use more of the smokey bbq flavor (just my opinion) and the ribs were a bit too sweet for both my daughter and I. The bbq sauce options were regular or the sriracha bbq. Both were sweet. The chunky salsa that came with the tri-tip was nice and flavorful! The salsa with the garlic bread and tri-tip was great! I would LOVE to see a vinegar sauce option! The service was excellent. Since it was our first time there we had mentioned how the ribs were a bit too sweet for our liking and they mentioned that next time you can request just the dry rub or one of the bbq sauces. I love that you do have an option. Overall we would love to come back and try again. Going somewhere new is always intimidating but the staff made it warm and welcoming and were...
Read moreFirst time coming here, I was craving a tri-tip sandwich and after searching online my boyfriend and I decided to try this place. The place is nice and clean, food was really good, however; service needs improvement. Walk into the place and no greetings when there were three ladies behind the front counter. They just looked at us like we didn't belong there. One of them reached for the menu to handed to us and a second ladies looked at her and with her head shaking from side to side signaled her "no". She knows I saw her so looking at her I asked her should we sit anywhere or should we order first. She replied by saying "you order here and we bring your food to your table". The only nice person there is the lady that took our food to the table. I have never left so unwelcome in a restaurant and I been to really nice restaurants where I had pay almost $200.00 dollars of a dinner for two. I think I can pay for...
