This review is based solely on my experience with management.
I had dinner with my boyfriend there the other night. We are not locals and had travelled in for a long weekend. In fact, this was our last dinner of the trip. When our server brought the check at the end of our meal, he assumed my boyfriend would be picking up the tab and placed it in front of him, but dinner was on me that night. The black guest check book that our bill was presented in had a broken credit card holder inside. Completely busted, it flapped right open. I put my card in the book and placed it in the middle of the table. Server came back, picked it up, and rang my card. He didn't bother to look and the name on it because when he returned, he once again hands the black book to the man at the table, and not the woman whose name was on the credit card.
I have no problem with this! My boyfriend usually picks up the check. This review isn't meant to knock our waiter; his service was good. What happened the following day is the reason for the one star. Since the check book was handed to my partner, he handed me the pen and the receipt to sign. I'm not sure if my card was even in there. Probably not because he would have surely handed me that too. Since the order of things was in disarray and sensory memory didn't come into play here, my card was accidentally left behind.
I didn't realize my card was gone until the following day when I went to use it. By this time we were already back home from our trip. I immediately called my boyfriend to see if he'd accidentally taken it since he was the one who was handed the check book. He didn't have it. I remembered the faulty credit card flap and it dawned on me what must have happened. It had to still be at the restaurant.
I called the Bacchus on the Beach and explained to the woman on the phone what had happened. She went to check for my card and, sure enough, it was there. Phew! Relief! I asked if she could mail it to me since I live out of town. Without a moment's hesitation, she said that no, she couldn't. Because she didn't have any stamps.
I was honestly stunned at that moment, and insulted. This is customer service 101. Any business as successful as this one surely sends things out in the mail, gift cards, etc. She just couldn't be bothered by this and practically laughed it off. I spent far more on dinner than the cost of a postage stamp, and would have gladly paid for one myself to get my card back. The fact that she even suggested I call my bank and have them send me a new card (which she did) instead of stepping up to provide basic customer service is insane to me. So after that phone call, I had no choice but to call my bank and cancel my card, and now I have the added inconvenience of waiting however many business days for them to issue a replacement, not to mention the extra hassle of having to reconfigure all the things linked to that card when it finally arrives because it will have a new number.
Really turned off by this. I'm still finding it hard to believe. In the hotel industry, if a guest leaves something behind, you mail it to them. The restaurant industry is no different. Hospitality is...
Read moreI don’t normally do reviews online but I couldn’t believe the experience I had over the weekend and I feel the management needs to be aware of this unhappy employee. My family and I attempted to dine in at this establishment over the weekend with our family. We did in fact have a large group and totally understood that they would not be able to seat us all together, nor did we expect to all sit together. We were willing to accept whatever accommodations the restaurant could give us with the amount in our group. We just wanted to just have a good place to take our guests that were visiting with us this weekend. However, that didn’t happen. We were greeted at the entrance podium by someone who had the worst and rudest attitude I have ever witnessed in a restaurant. She acted as though we were inconveniencing the restaurant by the amount of guest we had. I tried to explain that we were ok with sitting at separate tables. She was bossy and finally after shaking her head like I can’t believe this, she said just sit wherever you want to while shaking her head. I was appalled. I couldn’t believe the way she was speaking to me. As I looked at my wife and told her we will go somewhere else, she said to another worker, “see this is why the hostess needs to hurry and get here”. I can tell that this girl, (I asked her name on my way out, Alisha I was told) has no customer service experience nor does she like her job. So we just left and found somewhere else to eat. We come to Bacchus often when we are in town. We have a vacation home in the Pass and I have always noticed that she has an attitude look on her face when we’ve eaten here many times before. I don’t think I have ever seen her smile. I would think she doesn’t like her job. Bacchus is full of happy smiling employees and I am always happy to see the same people working when we go, which tells me that this must be a great place to work. Or great people to work for. That has a lot to do with the kind of customer service your employees put out to the guests. I would not let her greet guests at the door and someone with a smile needs to be at the door for the guests to see when they...
Read moreThis was not the best experiences, see when I go out to eat I do not haggle or complain over price , but I do expect the food to mirror the price , I had a wise man tell me once the price you choose to charge you always give your best cause it was your choice and your reputation is on the line , My wife ordered the steak special 5 Oz with shrimp and cheesy mashpotatoes special it was normally $33.95 but on special it was $27.00 , first the meat was burned , granted it was late we ordered around 8:30 and that was their excuse for the burn is it was late , now they did make it right and remade it , it was good , now mine was simple Burger with bacon on top and cheese , I know I'm really simple !! Lol , you would think so right , but actually the hamburger patty was terribly oversalted, I did have the Caesar salad it was very good .at the end of dinner we received the bill and noticed the special was charged as full price , again we brought this to Management attention , he said it happens ,Realllyyy so this happens how often ,. Service was very good , made sure to tip Darby well , was not her fault . Servers should never suffer for the incompetence of the people that are not giving 100 % , I say that 100 % because when it's time too pay the bill they want 100% .. Would I go back , I believe everyone deserves a second chance, someday maybe .. EATING OUT IS A ENJOYMENT THAT WE SHARE WITH OUT SIGNIFICANT OTHER OR FRIENDS WE WANT TO SPEND TIME WITH , WE COULD COOK AT HOME . BUT WE CHOOSE GO OUT BEING CONFIDENT THAT WE HAVE CHOSEN A PLACE THAT WILL REFLECT OUR LOVE FOR OUR FRIENDS AND MAKE FOR A GREAT MEMORY !!
GOING OUT TO EAT IS A LUXURY NOT A NECESSITY, AND WHEN DONE , THE RESTAURANT THAT WE CHOOSE SHOULD REALIZE HOW SPECIAL WE THINK THEY ARE , BECAUSE OUT OF ALL THE RESTAURANTS ON THE COAST WE CHOSE THEIR RESTAURANT , HOW...
