Tortas Lokas — Restaurant in Passaic

Edit 7/23/22: I’m editing my original review that I have posted 2 years ago prior to the pandemic. I went there yesterday and ordered my usual 20 Al Pastor tacos. My total came up to $42.65 and I paid cash since some places charge additional fees for using credit card post pandemic. I gave the lady $45 and she handed me $2. So I was confused and reminded her that I gave her $45 and that she still owes me 35 cents, and she looked at me and said nonchalantly that they don’t give out change! It’s unbelievable! There was no sign in the establishment indicating that they don’t return customer’s change and I wasn’t verbally warned that they would do such a thing. If I knew then I would’ve made my decisions differently and not order from there. It’s not so much about the measly 35 cents, but this is no way to treat your customers or do business! And to boot, the food quality has gone down too. The Al pastor meat that I got tasted dry and flavorless. I will not support them anymore.

———————————————————- Original review: I have been looking for a good authentic mexican taco since moving to NJ and have yet to find one till I tried Tortas Lokas. After seeing the online menu and photos, they looked delicious so I thought I'd give it a try today and I dare say that there are no regrets! People who work there are nice, the ambiance is relaxed, and the bistek tacos are absolutely scrumptious! I'll be going there again this Friday to try other items...

Found this place on Instagram and had to go since they were having a promotion for taco Tuesday $1 tacos!! You are able to sit down inside the establishment which was great ofc respecting the social distancing. The place was very clean, the front cashier lady was very kind and helpful. We ordered the tacos and a torta Loka de milanesa de pollo. The torta loka is huge!! They top it off with a cute tiny Mexican flag on top. The flavor was good, but feel like their should have been more meat put in the torta as the bread is huge and there were some spots where it was just bread. The salsas were not so good, they didn't have much flavor and were not spicy at all. I know some people don't eat spicy but they should incorporate a spicy salsa option for those who like spicy. I also ordered an agua de Jamaica which tasted okay, not too much Jamaica flavor and it was super bitter had to put some sugar in it. The tacos were great being that they were only a dollar could not beat it, it was a decent size tortilla not the super tint ones, and they were generously filled with meat. Also got the four tacos de bistec which were very good, definitely packed with meat so the price was totally worth it! Would definitely come again and eat here....

two weeks ago on 10/4/19 my husband placed a online order on their website around 6:25pm it was 7:55PM and food still not delivered. so my husband called at 8:10PM and the lady tells him they had no idea about the order that she had not checked their orders online and that they would start doing it and deliver in about 45mins so I told my husband to cancel and get refund instead we would go out to eat elsewhere. the lady then said that she can't refund as only the owner can reverse the transaction and owner was not in at the moment. Well its been TWO weeks and till this day we have not received a refund nor a call from owner or manager. Every other day that I call there is never a manager nor the owner....and on top of never getting a hold of a person in charge of the business the lady that answers the phone got a little loud and with attitude had to check her real quick because I have not been rude to her regardless of my frustration.
