La Casa Del Mofongo — Restaurant in Paterson

We placed a $250+ order on Mothers Day via GrubHub at 2pm. The delivery time was 3:50pm. The delivery driver was at the restaurant on time and was given the runaround multiple times by the restaurant saying the order would be ready in 5 minutes, 15 minutes, 10 minutes, then 1 hour as of 4:15PM. They had the audacity to say that the order was JUST received as of 4:15pm. We had received the confirmation from the restaurant way before the original delivery time.

We understand it is a holiday, but having people wait 3-4 hours and then saying they JUST received it when they CLEARLY said the food would be ready prior to making that statement shows extreme lack of customer service and common decency. They will lie to keep you waiting around for nothing. No apologies were given until the very end - just excuses.

The restaurant eventually apologized on the phone, and offered their own delivery method as completion time was too long for the original GrubHub driver to wait. An hour later, they had the nerve to call that driver and tell her to come back! We felt bad for the driver and picked up the delivery personally and communicated to the restaurant our frustration.

The place is a mess & they will NEVER get any of our money again. Run for the hills. There are TOO many good Dominican restaurants in Paterson to deal with this level of mediocrity.

Came to La Casa Del Mofongo with high expectations based on the reviews & was sadly disappointed.

The only redeeming dishes were the chicharron de cerdo & mofongo de mixto for the aperitivo. The entrees left so much to be desired.

I ordered the fried red snapper which tasted acidic. The batter was coagulated and the entire fish was refried, it smelled like rancid oil. I ordered a salad, and the server neglected to inform me it came with a salad, so I had double the salad. Speaking of, it consisted of sad trimmings of lettuce, few slices of mushy tomatoes & cucumbers, with a few sprinkles of corn.

My partner ordered a mofongo de churrasco, and the server repeated the temperature incorrectly twice, stating we said medium well when we repeated medium rare. His dish was fine, but that’s kind of the bare minimum, mine was beyond disappointing.

Service was extremely rushed during the order process when there was not many customers, but no one to be found when we wanted to ask for condiments.

There is automatic added gratuity and that’s a non-issue for me. I firmly believe servers should be paid fairly, however, I have many reasons to believe it’s led to complacency and subpar service at this...

It was our first and the last visit in this restaurant! It was a big disappointment. My husband’s and my food was very salty! The biggest disappointment came with a check! Yes, a check. Check it before you pay! They charged me for a different plate, of course $11 more. When I asked a server why they charged me for a different plate I didn’t order she said that I wanted this plate but without a lobster. Who doesn’t like a lobster! I specifically asked her about the differences between two plates and I chose the one they didn’t serve me. She said that the next time when we come she will give me a discount. It won’t be the “next time”. Now, listen to this… The second mistake was with our three cocktails. Instead of $11.99 they charged us $13.99!!! When we asked about this mistake she said she gave us a premium drink! Who asked her about a premium drink? I even didn’t use this word. What a catch! We overpaid about $28 (including tax and a tip).
