My wife and I were craving Peruvian and some Google sleuthing led us to discover Paterson, NJ and Little Lima. We were ecstatic to learn that there was a Peruvian enclave, thinking that we had the best chances of enjoying good and authentic Peruvian cuisine here. We searched for restaurants in the area, and Lomo Saltado Peruvian Cuisine rose to the top with its impressive 4.9 star reviews. We thought it would be worth the 1.5 hour drive to try it out.
Upon our arrival at the restaurant, we were not greeted. After standing awkwardly for a couple of minutes, we decided to seat ourselves. Eventually, the waiter brought us the menu. We ordered Lomo Saltado and Ceviche Mixto.
FOOD: 3.5 stars. Not the best Peruvian we've had, and certainly not the worst. Food was decent. We thought we would be blown out of our minds based on all the reviews that were written. Needless to say, we felt the reviews were over-hyped, setting up expectations that were not met. But we figured, this is Little Lima, let's enjoy it for what it is since we drove 1.5 hours to get here.
Little did we know that the experience would leave a bad taste in our mouths. See below for details.
WARNING They don't have/serve tap water. They will charge you $2 for a bottle of water from Aldi. This is not listed anywhere on their menu. CHECK YOUR BILL: They overcharged us for the Ceviche Mixto. It was supposed to be $24.96 (pricing was listed on paper and website menu); however, they charged us $26. I paid the bill; my wife pointed the discrepancy out to me after we had already started driving. We decided it wasn't worth it to go back to the restaurant and refute the cost. They automatically force a 15% gratuity to your bill. This gratuity amount is BEFORE tax, so they tax you on the gratuity as well.
We DEFINITELY will not be returning. See receipt...
Read moreI wanted authentic Peruvian cuisine for my husband‘s birthday and I found Lomo Saltado Peruvian Cuisine in Paterson, NJ. I have to say from the minute we walked in, we were wowed by the vivid images on the wall. And the food did not disappoint either. We had the mixed ceviche, Pescado A Lo Macho, Chicha Morada and Flan. Every dish was up to par; Tasty-Fresh-just a party to your palate. The portions were generous. The small details in restaurants are very important for example, the canchitas (which were free) were the higher quality ones, and even the napkins were not the cheap ones that you might find in certain restaurants. I love the bathroom decor-modern. But can we talk about their menu? It’s a real tablet. Love It! You will too. After our meal, we met the owner Karina, a friendly and very social lady. You can’t replace good customer service, honesty. We will be returning to this Restaurant for sure. Our only problem was for street parking but in reality it wasn’t too bad as we found street parking less than...
Read moreExcellent food and a wonderful service must not be kept to oneself, I want to share this experience so people know about this gem in Paterson. Today I decided to drive about an hour away to this place because a friend told me about the food and google reviews validate it. My dad, my wife and I; all born and raised in Peru; have a pretty precise sense of what our natal food should taste like and this place did not disappoint. We started off with the causa trio, very fresh, colorful and tasteful. I had the lomo saltado with huancaina pasta and it was great! the meat was so tender, juicy and flavorful. The huancaina sauce had all the flavor and color from the aji amarillo. Needless to say I will come back to this place hopefully more often.
Señora muchas gracias por la atención y la excelente comida de hoy....
