We have been going to Ichiban Japanese Sushi Bar and Grill for the last few years and we go to this restaurant because the food is really great and fresh.
My husband is a chef so we know quality food. We are an interracial couple and the treatment that my black wife receives is just unacceptable,
To be completely fair to this restaurant we observed and evaluated over a period of two years this implicit bias and racial prejudice attitudes before posting this very concerning review.
The treatment of my wife who is black is totally unacceptable, the servers only address me, I am white male from Peachtree City area, The servers come to our table and only make eye contact with me, never looking directly at my wife. The servers never ever make my wife feel welcome and appreciated.
The servers never ever make eye contact or answer any of my wife questions, whenever my wife asks a question, the servers always look me directly in the eyes, always acknowledging me, never my wife, this type of racial bias and discrimination is unacceptable and not appreciated.
We have observed and documented this Racial Bias treatment for a period of two years, We also have observed the great treatment and perfect service that all their white customers receive from these same servers.
We brought this concern to the manager approx. a year ago and shockingly the Manager again only addressed me asking me if I was ok, not even addressing my wife concerns and racial complaints to her.
Racial discrimination is unacceptable for all businesses and Ichiban Restaurant needs to train their employees about better treatment, better service and attitudes towards their loyal Black and brown customers.
Racial discrimination hurts everyone ,our intentions is not to hurt anyone or offend anyone. I finally found the courage to share my story with others and my hope and honest intention is to bring awareness to this difficult issue and topic.
I have spent over a decade in silence about the hardship, challenges and adversity I have experienced here in the south due to racial discrimination. I am simply sharing my story in an attempt to bring awareness to this hateful and soul crushing form of hate and Racial discrimination.
I believe that racial discrimination and implicit bias is a human rights crisis. I believe that it is one of the most inhumane and devastating fights any human being can experience for no other reason other than for the color one’s skin. I believe that these racial discrimination acts and the folks who treat other unfairly does not understand the damage that they cause. They do not understand the impact of their hatred and the emotional damage it does to those on the receiving end.
The after effects of racism, implicit bias and any form of discrimination leave a wake of emotional and psychological pain that is long lasting and traumatic.
Ichiban Restaurant Owners and managers please address this issue as your food is truly excellent !!!!

Read moreHad a really good atmosphere with soft piano/instrumental music in the background. It’s in a nice part of town and the place itself has a semi-fancy/chill type of vibe, some of the booth seat cushions on one side of the restaurant had some wear and the accompanying tables had some scratches, but it was mostly minor stuff you only notice when you first sit down(if you pay attention to it at all). The waitresses gave good service and didn’t make us wait whatsoever. The food was great, had pretty good portions and came out quickly (though there weren’t many people around when we were there, it may take longer when it’s more crowded) The pricing was a bit strange, however. You could get 8 pc of one type of sushi for 5$, and 8pc of another for 12$. It was a similar situation for other types of food as well, 30$ for one hibachi dish with 15$ for another, you get the point. I had a 5$ 8pc California Roll and a 12$ shrimp and chicken hibachi meal (with lunch special prices) and shared it between me and someone else, and it was enough to fill us both up. They both tasted amazing and and had generous proportions, so I can’t imagine what the big price differences between meals is all about unless the expensive ones have twice the food or something, but for what we got we were definitely filled up. For the few small issues with the seating we had, everything else makes up for it...
Read moreSadly service and quality here has deteriorated significantly while portion sizes have decreased and prices increased. We had a two person dinner one steak and shrimp hibachi and one with 3 sushi rolls. Total bill was $90. There were 3 shrimp and 8 steak pieces. The rest was vegetables and rice. About 30 minutes after the hibachi entree was served we had to grab our waiter's attention as he was chatting with a pretty waitress. He had disappeared in the back until then. He asked if we were ready for our check and I reminded him that my sushi had not arrived but that my partner had already finished their meal. He ran over to the sushi bar and grabbed my sushi which had just been sitting there. The rolls were shriveled and small with dried out tempura. No chopsticks were offered and I had to walk around to find a soy dish. Overall it was a terrible experience at what used to be a...
