Me and my wife are originally from Buffalo, NY and have heard about Tavern@ Medlock from various other "Buffalonians" transplanted in Ga. I have been to the establishment on one previous occasion for pizza and wings. The pizza is spot on! The wings are not authentic Buffalo Style as they use sauce with crushed red pepper and not just straight Franks hot sauce and clarified butter, (trust me, I have cooked for over 30 years in Buffalo Restaurants, I know wings). Suffice to say, our visit on Saturday 6/06/20 was a bit disappointing. We decided to try the "Beef on Weck". Our server was also the bartender and we did not have any complaints on the service as she was quite busy and handled things well. The only complaint was that she never asked us what temperature we would like our beef. My wife is a medium and I prefer a bit more rare. The roll looked nothing like a weck roll. Personally, I make my own with Kroger Kaiser rolls and use an egg and water wash to allow the caraway and pretzel salt to stick when warming in the oven. This roll was toasted. For $11.99, I expected a much larger sandwich. I know the trick of using a smaller roll to make it look like a ton of meat was piled high. Didn't fool me. At first bite, I tasted that familiar tingle on my tongue of meat about to turn sour. I should have sent it back, but I knew the pizza would make up for the "sub-Par" sandwich. It did. The pizza was very good. Ample cheese, good sauce and crust and outstanding pepperoni! Thank God! I was worried it might be the last time I would ever eat there. The pizza reminded me of a good Buffalo style pizza, (not as good as Carbone’s or Imperial) but, it could be considered a good Buffalo pizza. My advice, don't order the Beef on Weck if you are from Buffalo. Buy a top round season it to your liking and cook it medium rare. Save the juices. Make Au Jus from the juices and add some water and beef better than bouillon to taste. If you have a slicer, slice it as thin as possible, warm in the Au jus, and pile it on a homemade Weck roll. And never do the injustice of serving it with a sub-par horseradish. Also, the hand cut fries were good but the garnish was missing, needed a good Kosher...
Read moreHope you have free time. I have gone to the Tavern several times for lunch while I am at work. They make a good burger, and tacos. With that being said, I have never been able to get in and out of here in less than an hour, ever. I have to plan for this and take an extra long lunch if I want to do burgers or taco Tuesday at this restaurant. At my last visit, we were the only customers there when we showed up, it was two of us and we both ordered burgers, it took 40 minutes from the time we ordered to the time we got our burgers. Again, the burgers are good, but there is no reason it should take that long. I knew this was going to happen so we tried to call in our order ahead of time and they REFUSED to take our order even when I asked if we could place the order to go, the hostess said "Because you said you will be dining in my manager said I am not allowed to take a to-go order from you. You will be our first customers today, it wont take us any time at all to serve you". Yeah, a restaurant that takes to-go orders refused to take our to-go order because we said we were going to eat there. That brings us to the rest of the service... I have gotten some good servers here before, but I have gotten some that were horrible and looked like they hated their lives, I would say it is truly 50/50 if you will get a good server or not. Even when you get a good server you will wait at least 10 minutes from the time they bring you the check until they come to your table again. Seems they all get busy standing by the edge of the bar chatting. And if a manager told the hostess not to take our to-go order then there are even worse problems, but I don't think that is the case, I got a feeling she was just confused and too scared to ask her boss a silly question. I like the food at this place, and I am hoping that this review encourages the management to step up their game during...
Read moreStepping into Tavern at Medlock tonight, solo while my wife was out of town, was like slipping into a ‘90s Atlanta time warp - complete with old-school 40-inch TVs, back when those boxy screens were the pinnacle of sports-watching glory. The bar buzzed like a communal jukebox, alive with clinking glasses and chatty patrons swapping tales, making me itch to bring my wife next time to dive into this retro revelry.
The female bartenders, quick as lightning with a friendly grin, slung cocktails like alchemists; my Uncle Nearest whiskey neat was a smoky masterpiece poured with precision. The whiskey selection shines, though the tap beers play it safe - think classic hits, not craft brew anthems, which fits this tavern’s throwback soul.
The menu, sprawling like a diner’s greatest hits, had me skeptical about quality, but my Philly cheese steak wrap landed with bold, cheesy swagger, even if the grease left a glossy calling card.
Service was swift but leaned more “get ‘er done” than “let’s be pals,” missing that extra warmth I craved. No sweat - the lively crowd around the bar, framed by those vintage TVs blasting sports, turned strangers into fast friends, filling the gap.
With its wood-paneled charm and nostalgic heartbeat, Tavern at Medlock served up a night worth raising a glass to. I’m already plotting a return with my wife to claim our stools at this bar’s...
