Back in the 90s, one of the best fast food joints in the Metro area was Dairy Queen. While not as cheap as McDonald's or Burger King, DQ occupied a special place as the one you went to for something casual, but a little more upscale. For the kid's sports teams who won instead of losing, for that date you actually cared about to save a little extra money for before heading to the movies, DQ was the spot.
Sadly, they got suppressed during the "fight" with the other burger joints back then. Some closed, others stayed open, but it started feeling like DQ might be over after the turn of the millennium. So when they started bouncing back after acquiring Orange Julius (another old favorite of the late 80s through the 90s), I was happy to get to a new location and give them another try.
And it was great... for a while. But the good time are over again. This location is similar enough to the Ridgeland one that I regret having to write this review.
The one good thing in all this is that the burgers ARE still good, better than McDonald's or NK, in my opinion. But everything else is bad. The hot dog for the chili cheese dog I ordered was clearly nuked in a microwave: tough and leathery. The fries were passable. But it was the long wait, both for myself and those behind me, that killed the experience. During a pandemic when most fast food places are doing good business, DQ just doesn't seem to care a rat's behind if they are doing a good job.
Oh, you can still get an ice cream cake and other frozen treats. But of that's the only thing you can do right, why bother with the other stuff on the menu? Why not just admit DQ is not going to try for the old standard, and bill itself as another ice cream shop (one cheaper than many of the others, possibly even Baskin Robins)?
If you want a good burger in a timely manner, hit up the local Wendy's or Sonic. All I could recommend from DQ is dessert, which some of us can't even have anymore.
Sadly, it looks like you can't "go home" by way of Dairy...

I requested him to print Happy Birthday on it he said we don’t do it, I requested him to give the cone to me so that I can write by myself, he denied. The I requested him to give me happy birthday sticker to put on cake after struggling he gave me 1 plastic piece Birthday cake written on it. I said thx. He ring my cake and paid for it for $27.19 plus tax came up to $29.91. I requested Mr. Noah to put the cake in the bag again his Sweet answer that we don’t put cakes in any type of carry bags you have to carry your cake like that. What a great service on this particular Dairy Queen. Will never recommend anybody to even pass by that Dairy Queen. Go to other Dairy Queen so that atleast you get some good service not like this. Very Very bad experience at this location of...
Read moreSo Me and my family came here to get some food before going to the festival here in Jackson. So first off I wanted a four piece chicken, tender basket with two toasted and buffalo and two toasted in honey barbecue. They said that they could not do this so therefore my daughter ordered honey barbecue and I ordered the buffalo sauce tenders, then we split them between one another. lol it’s not rocket science you take two chicken tenders of one kind and put in one box and you take two chicken tenders of another kind and put into another box. lol but then when we proceeded to sit down, there is mold all over the seats and the tables and the walls there is food all under the seats. There is some stuff that has gotten spilt on to some of the seats that have been there so long that it has become molded! Moving on once we open our boxes the chicken tenders was so tiny that it looked like chicken nuggets. There was not even enough chicken there to feel my nine-year-old daughter. When going to other Dairy Queen’s when this happens, they will put extra chicken tenders in the box if they are small this one here does not. That is why I am rating this...
