How. Sad. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. It was so bad I don't know where to begin. If you read the reviews you'll see consistently bad service. But we were willing to risk it, if the food was good. Well, I'll start from the beginning. No one knew what was going on when we walked in. Literally we were 3 people wanting hibachi, and it took 3 different people to get someone who could seat us. So we sit down, and red flag number two should have been that the table next to us had clearly been there for a while (they ordered their second round of margaritas) and still didn't have a chef. We ordered before they did (odd, but we just figured they wanted to drink more before they ate..) We finally got a waitress and ordered drinks (which took forever) and then ordered our food. We chose salads instead of soup (you get one or the other here). My salad might have well have been a cold soup. It was swimming in dressing, like dripping all over the place there was so much of it. The bottom 3rd of my salad bowl was still full of dressing when I finished. Then we get a chef. This guy...cooked our food. No show, no tricks, we didn't even get a flaming onion stack choo-choo train. I was the only one to order noodles instead of fried rice. He tossed a plate of plain noodles on the table in front of me. He then made everyone else's fried rice. It was literally fried egg, rice, and a couple of drops of soy sauce. Uhh? So then he starts on the meat and veggies. Normally, this is when they try to get shrimp in your mouth. This guy tossed raw zucchini chunks at us. *Side note, that hurts when it lands on your eye. The meat is served with no seasoning and it hasn't been marinated either. Finally he cooks the veggies (meanwhile i'm still looking at this plate of raw flavorless noodles in front of me). He says he forgot about my noodles and literally warms them on the grill and gives them back. This was the saddest excuse for hibachi I have ever seen. Our chef was lackluster, but the one that finally served the people next to us was not. Should you decided to torture yourself and go here, at least ask for him- Dave- to be your chef. And to go back to the terrible service, our wine glasses sat empty from the time our chef came. We never got refills, not even on the water. And when it was time to pay, we walked to the front because our waitress never came back. We could have easily walked out without paying, that's how little attention the staff shows the customers.. I can cook better knockoff Japanese food at home than this place can. What a sad excuse for a restaurant, much...
Read moreVery disappointed with a company we have been coming to for years. As a person who loves this place... I can honestly say after what happened last week, I would never return to this restaurant. The cook was great, the food was delicious and prepared quickly. After the cook was finished cleaning the grill, he left and we continued to finish up our meal. Not long after, my oldest sister believed to have seen something scurrying across the floor. Come to find out it was a LARGE rat. The 2 ladies at the same habachi grill as us saw it as well. As we sat there in disbelief we informed one of the waitresses of what had occurred and it was as if she was unphased by the matter. Once the cat got out of the bag (or rat I should say) the manager and cooks frantically tried to figure out where it went. Once the situation was controlled we asked to speak to the manager due to the fact that we still had a fair amount of food left over and felt we deserved some money back. My mother spoke with the manager concerning the situation and he took $20 off of our $110 tab. The two ladies on the other hand went up as well and got their entire bill taken care of. At this point... I took matters into my own hands and asked to speak with the manager as well. While I tried to speak with him in a polite manner he tried to disregard the situation and walk away. As this unfolded, my mother interjected saying that we should get our bill taken off, just like the two ladies. He then continues to say that they paid their tab when we already knew they didn’t. I kept my cool up until this child that they call a “manager” got a little too close to my mothers face. He soon realized that was the worst mistake he ever made and long story short he voided our entire transaction. As I read through reviews, I realized I’m not the first person who’s had a problem with this guy and I can’t say I’m suprised. He handled the situation like how a 4 year old would, and due to the employees not flinching to the fact that there was a LIVE rat in the restaurant, it leads me to believe this isn’t the first time it has happened. Don’t go here unless you want to be apart of...
Read moreI have been going to Sushi restaurants for ages all over the East coast and have come to some basic conclusions. The majority of Japanese restaurants are NOT owned by Japanese, except in enclaves like Ft. Lee, New Jersey. Most are owned by Koreans, Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese etc., And you can tell the difference. In a true Japanese restaurant the Sushi Chefs are real Japanese with their training and their knives. The other establishments may have Latinos and other ethnicities working. So true Japanese sushi is expensive and a work of art. Others are just nori, rice, and some filling. If you eat at a true Japanese one, you will starve. They make their maki tiny but geometrically and symmetrically perfect. The nori length is just enough to cover the maki rice completely. The rice is the right temperature with the correct amount of mirin. The fish, cut fine, is placed just so that each maki piece is IDENTICAL. The ends of the maki are tossed out, because they are not pretty. So a tiny maki, almost, perfect, expensive as all f$%*. Nami is not that, owned by Chinese with the clanging of Teppanyaki and a separate Japanese cuisine area. The fish is fresh, the dishes prepared decently. Nothing to write home about, but decent dependable food. The cuts of sashimi are, thank goodness, not japanese. One piece of sashimi here equals 2 in a japanese joint. The rice for the sushi is sometimes not handformed perfectly. The maki, ok, but with ends. That's a good thing. More food! Looking for Uni is sometimes playing the lottery. Only downfall is the fish variety. It's limited as i think the clientele is uneducated about the varieties available. Salmon, salmon and more salmon. The obligatory toro, tako, ebi, unagi... But no hirame or tai. In conclusion decent Japanese sushi bar, teppanyaki a clanging Chinese chef reunion, good prices. Oh by the way. the MOST AWESOME GREEN...
