I would give this 3.5 stars if such a ranking were available. Not any fault of the restaurant, but to Google maps, we were misdirected by approx 5miles in the opposite direction in a city we had never been to before. I called the restaurant and the hostess was so very nice and explained for some reason Google maps misdirected some and not others and she very patiently was able to direct us out of where we're were and straight to the restaurant.
We were early for our reservation and they happily seated us right away. My husband and I enjoyed the atmosphere, we were seated at a table in a small section with only about 5 tables, and directly in front of a lovely tall fireplace.
Our server was to us almost immediately and she was very friendly. Although her follow up with us was sporadic (I am not knocking her for that as I am well aware that right now EVERY business is very short staffed and I am sure she was having to handle more than a normal table load). We gave her our complete orders. We started with their house made chips, I ordered the veggie burger w/fries (it was either a beyond burger or impossible burger I don't recall) add sauted mushrooms and chedder cheese and please bring mayo and mustard. My husband ordered fish and chips w/coleslaw (he ordered this on the recommendation of a fellow diner that heard it was our first time there, and she made a point to stop at our table on her way out and tell us how good it was).
The chips came right away and were VERY good, thin cut potato slices deep-fried (not greasy at all) and served with their house made ranch. For an appetizer it was a good sized portion definitely enough for 4 or 5 people to share. Unfortunately it took so long for our food to arrive that we ate almost the entire basket ourselves.
When our food did arrive, it was hot and the runner was pleasant enough. We had a view of the kitchen and I did see there appeared to be a kitchen manager there checking orders for accuracy. My burger came first and there was a several minute delay for my husband's meal to come. By the time my husband's meal arrived my burger & fries were no longer "hot".
Once my husband's food came i asked that food runner for mayo and mustard (it did not come with as I asked). And when out server finally came to check on us, I asked her to make sure that she removed the charge for the sautéed mushrooms as they were not on (or any where with) my meal. She looked surprised and said she would see to it. My burger tasted like....whatever fuel they use to cook with (propane or gas). I only ate a 1/4 of it. The fries were good thin cut fries, not greasy.
My husband's meal had 3 good sized pieces of battered cod. This was a bit greasy, however he took the batter off and just ate the fish which was tender, flaky, and quite delicious. His fries were equally good (as mine), their house made tarter sauce was very good, and the coleslaw was.....different, not bad just different rather mayonnaise-y.
Over all.....
Service .....was 4 out 5 (could have been a full 5 but really with a manager there checking orders there is no way my burger should have come put so far ahead of my husband's meal AND have my order not be correct).
Food ..... was a low 3
Atmosphere......... I'll go 5 out 5, its not fancy, very comfortable, clean, and inviting for both adults and children.
Would we go again...... probably not (even if it were closer to our home - we live about an hour North of the location. We went because I recieved a gift card for this restaurant from a friend who LOVED their Boynton location - which...
Read moreGood food on take out order but last trip we dined-in and got a different experience. The food for pick up for my first time was amazingly fast at 15 minutes (several places have told me that they are prioritizing deliveries and pick ups, I understand since most people have switched to take outs since the pandemic). I was amazed how fast and good the take out food was for a regular restaurant. The last visit was different though. My mom and her friend decided to go out to eat so we came to village tavern and try out the rest of the menu. Wait time was 45 minutes but it seemed like less. My mom’s friend was starving so she was a bit aggressive since she wanted to take a table that was waiting for the next party to arrive. When we finally got our table, we had a friendly waiter and we ordered a crab appetizer and some complimentary bread (upon request according to the menu). The bread was extremely hard but warm. My mom’s friend claimed it was stale bread and requested a new batch. She was right, the replacement basket was filled with soft hot bread. Unfortunately when you make the bread “upon request” only, it tends to leave bread waiting under a heat lamp for a while since many people might just expect bread instead of asking for it (not everyone reads the whole menu like me). My mom hated the crab dish because she claimed she tasted cheese, i didn’t taste the cheese but it did taste like a regular tuna salad when i just add mayonnaise to a can of tuna. They garnished it with a lemon wedge which did make it taste much better once we added the lemon juice. They are a craft kitchen so everything is made on site at the moment so when I ordered lemonade I was hoping for the one your mom makes for you in the hot summer days, but my drink tasted like the lemon water you get for a cold remedy. It was bitter and had no sugar added which is ok for a diabetic like me but not for normal public consumption. My mom liked her Cajun cream seafood pasta (she hates cheese or butter so we were happy she had a creamy dish she didn’t complained about all night). My grouper Hemingway was a bit overcooked on the fish and the pasta (I switched fettuccine for the usual angel hair pasta) was a bit underdone with no taste. The sauce was either not mixed well with the dish or they just didn’t strain the water out properly before adding the pasta to it. My mom’s friend said her shrimp risotto is ok. So we had a Goldilocks reaction with all three dishes. One underwhelmed, one ok and one that was loved. Since there were two different experiences with this restaurant, I want to try again with a different dish. The meals were served within 15 minutes and I do believe they are making it all on-site. The staff is helpful in trying to address any issues we had that day. I would however recommend they offer the bread up front when the guests sit down so they don’t have stale bread accumulating under the heat lamp. I would have thought that was the quality of their bread had my mom’s friend not rejected the first batch. It has convenient parking next to the restaurant unlike the other places in this plaza which is always full because they are surrounded by shops, so I encourage people to...
Read moreThe worst piece of overcooked meat i've ever had. Shoe leather is comparable. My Transaction ID 79301930. First and more than likely the last time I will ever visit. We sat down for Lunch and placed our order. The waitress (Valentina) was very attentive and knowledgable. My family orders their food and I ordered the Filet Medium (Red/ Pink center). She informed us that the restaurant is "scratch built" and the food would take a little bit to come out, but not terribly long. we ordered an appetizer (Caprese salad) and that came out relatively quick. Then we waited, and waited. The waitress kept on checking in and saying the the food should be ready soon. After about 50 minutes, I asked about the food and informed the waitress that we needed to leave soon. They finally bring out he food. I looked at the filet they placed in front of me and I could immediately tell that it was over cooked. I cut into it once and for sure it was solid brown with a very small pink center (About the size of a nickel). I asked for the manager because i was not happy at the fact that I ordered my food at a certain cooking degree and that it took for ever to come out and now I knew there was not time to make a new one. The manager arrives (Ray Garcia - Assistant GM) I explain that the filet is overcooked and is now well done (who the hell would do that to a filet, The whole purpose of ordering a filet is for the softness of the meat.) and he looks and says, "that's what a medium filet is supposed to look like" and offers no apology or any solution. I showed the waitress the cut of meat and she agreed that the filet was overcooked to hell. Needless to say that I had the waitress take back my dish and left without eating.
The food and hospitality industry is all about the experience and the food you provide. One chooses to dine out for the experience and the food. If one of those is off and the customer is not happy and they request to speak to the manager. It is expected that the manager do everything in their power to make it right. RAY GARCIA failed to do that on 9/11/22 and tarnished your company's image in my eyes and of everyone i speak to. Completely NOT...
