I have a friend from undergrad who I witnessed go vegan. I did not agree with her at the time, but I supported her with all of my effort, because that's what friends do. Everytime I come back home to visit, we used to go to the most popular restaurant in Pensacola, you know the one, but lately, they have gotten rid of every single food option that would maybe be considered vegan friendly.
Sooo, not wanting to alienate my friend, I decided to skip the usual place and come to the End of the Line Cafe. We brought a bunch of friends who weren't exactly super excited about coming to a vegan cafe, but they were also pleasantly surprised here.
I ordered the Knuckle Sandwich (A club piled high with maple-hickory bacon, grilled tofu, grilled onions, roasted red peppers, lettuce, Romas, Dijon mayo on toasted sourdough). This, was wonderful. The tofu was a very firm tofu and definitely made you think you were eating chicken. That, and all the typical veggies made this a very nice club sandwich.
I also got to sample one of the specials. I can't find it on a menu on their website, but I remember it was like a black bean burger patty on a nice brioche-like bun. It was called the lion's den or a Leo something or something. It was also very good. I love bean patties. The amount of 'meatiness' in them is surprising and better than just being a meat substitute.
Overall, this place is a Very good example of sleepy little Pensacola's progressiveness, and I hope this place thrives for decades to come and becomes the undisputed king of vegan food in my hometown....
Read moreWe have been coming to End of the Line Cafe for the last 4 yrs when we visit Pensacola. But this particular time I found the energy of the servers and staff to be very aggressive and rude! I went in to grab (and pay) for a take out order I placed 30 min before arriving and was immediately told to put on a mask.... while people 2 feet away from me (who had finished their meals) were speaking without masks to other customers sitting at tables around them! I took a mask and covered my face, paid, and then was told that I needed to physically put the mask on (I couldn’t hold it over my mouth and nose) to stay inside and wait for the food. Again.. while I’m watching the chef in the back take a drink of water and not put his mask back on for at least a minute and a half while he continued to make food. I waited outside for the remaining 45 min... I still haven’t actually gotten my food and honestly I don’t know if I’m going to eat it because at this point I don’t know what they have done to it!!! I have a family with 2 small children, my mother and husband waiting in the car. If everyone working in this establishment are so concerned they should be closed for in person dining and doing curbside pick up/take out only. Because currently the standard is so double it would make any sane person think they were going mentally insane. How is my breathe any different than the 20+ people surrounding me who are not wearing anything to cover their faces? Is that science? Did I miss that science class? Gosh, I definitely need to figure out how a virus is...
Read moreUsed to love coming here for a meal. Although the food is good, I still have a couple of things. They really need a better venting system. Every time I eat inside my clothes smell like food. The other "thing" and it's definitely a "thing" for me, because I try to eat as clean as I can. Even tho they say they are organic, they are not 100% organic. I was having lunch there with a friend and asked the food delivery guy (because I observed only conventional food not anything organic coming in the door) if the salad mix and other produce he was delivering was organic and he said "no!' At that point the owner came to my table inquiring if there was a problem. That's when she told me about the 85% rule. Apparently, and I heard this straight from the owner, you only have to be 85% organic to consider yourself an organic restaurant. She also added it's nearly impossible to be completely organic all the time. Really? There are 100% organic restaurants in Colorado, Washington DC, Orlando, Miami etc...It's also advertised on their website they are organic and ON their menu. While the food is very good here, I do have an issue with them advertising organic when it isn't. As a consumer I have a right to know where my food comes from and what I am eating. I am passionate about this and will stand my ground. I have not been back and don't know if I ever will. If it isn't important for you to eat organic all the time then you will like it here, if it is, you might want to...
