You almost need 5 guys to eat all the fries they give you with your order.
That’s no joke. You almost need to be awarded a medal if you can finish the fries that come with your order.
Erin, Matt and I rolled up to Five Guys after spending the afternoon exploring parts of Peoria. None of us had been there before, so it was a new and interesting experience for us all.
Upon entering, we were taken back by the large sacks of potatoes/french fries sitting on the floor. At first, you’d think this was poor inventory management but then you realize it’s part of the decor of Five Guys. It reminded me of those places that have peanuts at the table that are complimentary and you toss the shells on the floor afterwards. Restaurants never cease to amaze me.
We made our way up to the cashier to place an order after browsing the menu. As this was my first time here and I didn’t think anything much about the big bags of potatoes/french fries on the ground, I went ahead and grabbed a burger combo. I don’t remember what burger I got but it was probably something with bbq or bacon on it. Those are my favorite burger toppings (along with jalapenos).
Everyone placed their orders and we grabbed a seat at one of the tables and made small talk until our orders were ready. I would classify Five Guys in the “fast casual” category. It’s as quick as fast food but has the quality of a restaurant with a price that falls between those two things. I think my combo was near $10 but seeing as I paid for Erin’s and mine, I spent around $20 there? That’s a fair price in my book.
The cashier or manager is the one that brought our orders out to us and we spent little time opening the bags and digging in. As soon as I peeked in to my bag, I was mildly confused. There were more french fries than what I ordered. After rooting around the bag, I was finally able to find my burger. I kid you not, by weight, there were more fries in my bag than burger. After extracting my burger, I made a comment that I must’ve been given the largest fry on the menu. Matt and Erin kind of smiled and said that they must’ve gotten the same thing as they had more than enough fries as well.
The french fry surplus didn’t slow us down from digging in to our main course, but we kept joking that the french fries alone couldn’t been more than enough to fill us up. The burger itself was pretty good. I don’t know if my appetite made it taste better than it actually was, but for what it was, I was happy. It didn’t knock my socks off but it also didn’t put 6 more pairs of socks on.
The interior of Five Guys was nice but had that slightly greasy/fast food feeling to it. Everything you touched had a bit of oily/greasiness to it. The color scheme was white and red. It reminded me a bit of Steak N Shake with the tile being in their respective colors. The interior was on par for a fast food place but not nearly on the level of a restaurant. I guess that is to be expected from a “fast casual” place.
As we finished off our burgers, we kept picking at the fries. I don’t think any of us made a sizeable dent in our mountain of spud in front of us. I think I enjoyed the novelty of the french fries more than the meal itself. But, I am one who is easily amused. The food overall was great and just what we needed to recharge after exploring.
Even after all these years, I am still surprised at how driving somewhere and spending the afternoon exploring a town can leave you famished. If you experience these symptoms and need an overabundance of french fries to recharge, Five Guys can write you a prescription...
Read moreThis was our first time eating at Five Guys and I love how effortless our experience was. We placed our order online for pickup I placed our pickup time at 3:45 but we didn't make it there til 4:10 I believe because this was our first time on this side of Peoria and we def ran into traffic that day. However that did not stop our experience as there is a link you can click in a message sent that allows you to let the restaurant know your on your way. From there it can track your location and as you pull up to the restaurant you can then click the button to let them know your outside. As I got there its almost thou they knew it was me as they greated me by name and let me know my order was almost complete. I was so grateful in that moment as I thought our order would have just been sitting there getting cold and personal preference I do not like cold food or rewarmed food. It took them mins from the time I arrived to get our order completely together. The staff was incredibly nice and personable. When we arrived back at our hotel to enjoy our food it was warm and very delicious the only issue we had and not sure if there was miscommunication but the burger my husband ordered was suppose to be a triple burger with cheese and it literally was meat on a bun no condiments or anything but really outside of that we really enjoyed our experience and look forward to...
Read moreQuality and quantity of food for the price is severely out of balance. I ordered the regular fries, which were supposed to be for 2 to 3 people, and there was a serving for only one for $6.09. I asked the employees if this was a regular fry, and the only response was "Yeah," and they did not even look at the portion that was put in the bag. There are more fries in a large McDonald's fries than what was in the bag. Total meal including drink was $24.17 for one person for a double with regular fries and drink. I realize prices have risen significantly since Covid, but this is way out of balance. I ate at Dave's Burgers 5 days prior and got the same thing, and it was only $15.83, and they served unlimited hand cut fries, and the service was excellent. The service at five guys was slow, lacking interest, uncaring, and unappreciated! I do not live in this area, but we do visit 1 to 2 times per year. We had a Fiveguys in our hometown, and I can truly understand why it closed down. If this is the business model, they continue to use it will continue to drive...
