Gyros Palace — Restaurant in Peoria

We've been looking for a really good gyro place since we left CO, and the Gyro Palace doesn't disappoint.

So far, we've not tried a lot on the menu, but some of the most important items. The gyros are top notch and extremely delicious. Likewise, the hummus is also outstanding. The flatbread is soft and served very warm. Though I prefer a bit more "doneness" on the flatbread (i.e. a bit drier), this is strictly personal preference. The rice is also perfectly seasoned. Their salad is adequate. Overall, they seem to have a very decent menu, with quite a few options from East and West, so almost anyone can find something to eat there.

Their storefront is a cafe style. While they do have seating, it's not a large space, and the ambience is nothing to write home about. Cozy. The food is counter-ordered, and you can then seat yourself, pour your drinks, and they will bring the food out to you if you eat-in. They have a good carry-out model. I don't know if they deliver (guessing not).

The portions are adequate, though not overly-generous, and plenty enough to fill my belly. Pricing is decent for lunch, and middle to mid-high IMHO for the dinner portions. Reasonable for the quality of the food. The staff in our few times there so far have been very nice and accommodating.

No flavor and too expensive. I got the chicken rice plate and paid an extra $1.25 for pita. Everything was extremely bland, and the only reason I ate it was because I seasoned it myself with salt, pepper, onion and garlic powder. Plus the pita was cheap and chewy and the tzatziki was greasy and flavorless. How are you going to charge me $20 for a meal like this? And a $1.75 convenience fee?? What a rip off. People who rated this place highly must of eaten there when they had different ownership (who wasn’t a cheapskate scammer) or they don’t have tastebuds. I will say though, the chicken was great quality.

This is a response to owner’s reply; for some reason I am not able to reply directly: You are very welcome for leaving an honest review, and yes I think you should re-taste and re-evaluate some of your food. When it comes to your chicken; I was actually complimenting it and said it is good quality…. Also I will be blatant when I pay more than $15 for a single meal and the food is sub par. I didn’t leave this review out of spite, I left it because of principle; e.g high prices should equate to great tasting food; which I did NOT get....

Both me and my partner have really liked our experiences at this place. I noticed from last time I was allergic to whatever vinaigrette was on the salad but other than that it was fantastic. Thankfully when eating in they put the dressing in a container on the side instead of on the salad.

My partner usually gets the gyro plate, while I flop around to different ones. Our most recent visit they accidentally put our food in to go boxes when we were dining in (there were a lot of carry out orders this night so we didn't mind XD everyone makes mistakes). However, this meant that the salad I was given had the dressing on it in the to go box. I am extremely satisfied with their services as when I brought it back to them without opening it they had no issues exchanging it with one without the dressing.

(As I am usually allergic to a lot of salad dressings and I know that I had a reaction last time I had the dressing that any dressing on it would be the same or similar and didn't wanna take the chance and ruin the food by bringing it back).

All in all I give this place a 5/5. Can't wait to go back...
