First time I've been back since Sushi Yuki changed ownership, and I thought all and all was well. Even met an old friend when entering and him leaving that endorsed things, so that was good!
Not the same, drinks and food were quite reasonably priced, but food quality left some to be desired. Not sure anyone can get good fish any more, so find it hard to hold against them, and hope perhaps just blame "supply chain issues" like everyone else that hopefully gets better.
Most annoying things were the scallop nigiri were fishy, like instantly, as were the baked scallop rolls with the same bay scallops. Never ever had this before at Sushi Yuki prior, and oddly smelled them before I tasted it. My SO tried one scallop on the baked ones, and refused any more (I keep trying to sell on sushi, that hurt a bit). I didn't think either scallop nigiri or the baked tasted bad, but the funk was a bit suspect. I couldn't argue when we had scallops at home last night, but she was like "did mine smell/taste fishy?" (and no).
The prior baked scallop/lobster used to be far more goopy with the dynamite/scallions/scallops atop with the meats, this was almost dry with minimal dynamite atop california rolls, with some eel sauce over. Last time I was there a year or so ago with a friend that had never been there, he said the baked lobster might be his favorite sushi ever, and he mostly turned me onto most sushi and far less mainstream. Those mostly went home, I'll see how the scallops I did eat treat me...
I was excited for their maguro, but was a bit perplexed was rather dark solid purple, looked more like ahi than actual striped fatty tuna/maguro I've had (often) when any sushi offers it. It didn't smell (other than the scallops next to it), and tasted ok, but it wasn't real maguro if googling any example to be called that outside personal experience, which I have. It was reasonably priced, but it was hardly proper maguro.
I was endeared otherwise they actually had fresh wasabi they put on the "maguro" as a minor dressing, which I almost squealed at joy with vs. the fish itself, and got some more fresh wasabi asap. When asked, he mentioned it was rare places served it, and I agree - they should advertise/use this more! That alone sold me, I usually ask but forgot!
I ordered way to much just to try a bit of everything, but I thought everything I had was still tasty even if a bit fishy or even not. I will update if something wicked kicks in tomorrow to tell me otherwise, but I am hopeful otherwise it's a good update to the place with fresh faces. My SO liked the gyoza and fried rice, I always feel bad she indulges me, but she almost squealed a bit seeing someone get a giant bowl of yakisoba she wants to try next time too.
So long as my stomach doesn't tell me otherwise later, I'll definitely still be back and wish them well and hope they accept the advice where I hope they evolve and grow! I can imagine it hard to get good any good seafood when we keep destrying the seas and oceans around us, hopefully that...
Read moreI have to say that I was rather surprised at how mediocre this place was after seeing how many raving reviews there were. All I can say is they probably have a lot of friends and family posting to this new restaurant, or maybe there's some sort of coupon or incentive that I missed lol. The menu was VERY limited for a sushi restaurant. The rolls were very small in diameter, probably average size and length. The server who delivered the food didn't even know the items. There was a plate with two sushi rolls on it and she announced it as a California roll and mixed tempura??. Yes so we did order mixed tempura and it came out prior and it definitely was not on the plate that she just delivered. We ordered the fried rice and it just had a HUGE amount of onion, not green onion like regular big pieces of onion which was weird, Anyway, it was nice and clean, very new looking. But I can't say we'll be going back anytime soon with a variety of better sushi restaurants in the area. Maybe give them a try in a year or so when they have a decent size sushi and non sushi menu. Again not bad. Just not great. And our bill before tip was $50 and all I got was one roll, an order of shumai (horrible and small), an order of mixed tempora and some fried rice. A little pricey...
Read moreMy husband and I came here for lunch as our favorite spot wasn't opened yet. They were in the process of having their big fridge replaced, so we came in being understanding and giving grace. There was us and 2 other tables and 1 server on. It took a while to get the chance to order. We ordered drinks and then he left and when he came to take our food order no drinks amd said he was working on our 2 waters. We ended up ordering 2 gyoza plates, 2 spicy tuna rolls, the 911 roll, the second climax, and kiss of fire. The gyozas made it to the table before the waters. After 20 mins and no rolls, we said we needed to get going how much longer then was told 10 minutes. The easiest rolls, the spicy tuna, were the last ones we got. The 911 wasn't deep fried and was terrible tasting. I would not get it again. We were incredibly disappointed we took most of our meal to go due to time. For as much as we spent, it was not worth it go somewhere else. The place was super clean but the only thing it has...
