Food delicious, but ya need to speak Spanish... There were several customers - perhaps from the neighborhood - who were able to order (and felt welcome) because they spoke Spanish. We dropped in for lunch on a whim. The menu and specials are all listed in Spanish, in rather illegible writing. We had not a clue what to order, and asking for prices for non-listed items was another challenge. A very kind customer ended up very patiently translating for us. Turns out, maybe the girl taking orders was the only non-English speaker... when we got ready to pay the bill, a man who had always been behind the counter was willing to speak English to explain why the bill was so large (no water was available - at least for us...there was a rack of water glasses for anyone else - and the bottled beverages were pricey). And a small dish of pico de gallo was $2... the only complementary sauces were in squirt bottles. When we eat at Chili's, we get really good food, water, free refills, awesome salsa, attentive waiters who speak English, and fair prices. And we are always made to feel welcome. So I guess we need to stick to chains for Mexican food, and avoid this particular establishment, or any establishment where English-speakers aren't welcome. Too bad, because the...
Read moreI am from San Diego I know mexican quisine. this is probably the best place for mexican food and the nearest to authentic mexican food. they are missing the hand made tortillas and some Jamaica, horchata or tamarindo fresh water. they do have some authentic sodas which was great. the carne asada was well seasoned. the tortillas were soft and good. the al pastor meat was waaaaaaay over seasoned... too much pineaple and too much cinnamon. if they eased up on the pineaple and the cinnamon that al pastor would be great! the birria tacos "cripy" were great! meat was very soft and not chewy which means that they properly stewed it! the flavor was there and properly seasoned it was missing the clove flavor but was very good. their table salsa was very good and the right spicy. the totopos or chips are made there not store bought so defiinately good! i was told that we were not i the best of neighborhoods but I honestly felt safe. the only reason it got low stars on atmosphere is because some guys came in looked around and walked out. was somewhat weird...
Read moreFood looks better than it tastes. I went for the first time today and tried a variety of items. I ordered an order of nachos with ground beef, one steak taco, one pastor taco, and one chorizo taco. The ground beef was very bland, the pastor was hardly seasoned, there was some steak pieces that were very flavorful and others that literally tasted like nothing. All of these meats were drowned out by the flavor or onion and cilantro. As for the chorizo, it was the mildest I have ever had. Usually chorizo has a good kick to it, but this one missed the mark for me. The chips were good, but they were extremely oily and rather cold. Not this is a huge deal, I still ate them. Perhaps I went on an off day, but I do not foresee going back or ranting high praises of my experience. One note to those who have not been there, order ahead of time if you are going at lunch hour. I waited 10 minutes to order, and 30 minutes...
