Nyros Gyros — Restaurant in Peoria

I was off work early today and decided to bring my man lunch, and this was the place he chose. very clearly a previous subway location, the decor is minimal and setup feels a bit strange. I ordered a chicken philly for him, and a gyros plate for me. I also asked for fries and a drink but the cashier didn't catch it (might just be that I need to speak up) so I bought that as a second transaction. the wait was around 20 minutes, which I didn't love, but I suppose does make sense for freshly made food. when I checked the bag in the car, I realized there was no tzaziki with the gyro plate - not sure if they forgot it or if it doesn't come with any. "so why is this a five star review, Lauren?" let me tell you, when I tasted that gyro meat, I realized it didn't need sauce. it doesn't need anything. the rice? incredible. peppers and onions? perfectly cooked. their fries? seasoned and delicious. this place slaps. this place could slap me and I'd still come back. what a gem. can't wait to try everything on the menu. and I kinda like the funky atmosphere, might dine in next time I want an Italian beef in a...

I thought I'd try a new small business for lunch today but need to give it an incomplete at this time. I think they have a staffing challenge (as many restaurants are facing) as they continue to ramp up. I arrived and waited at the register to order at approximately 11:30am and as more lunch-rush customers came in, no staff/owner/manager greeted or acknowledged us or apologized for the delay. The limited dining area wasn't very appealing. The giant menu video boards were not working. By their expressions, a group of four glum and very hungry-looking patrons seemed to be waiting a while for their lunch order to arrive. The giant wall of carry-out containers was off-putting and obscured the food prep area. Personally, I prefer to see food, like gyros, being sliced off the spit, for example. Well I heard a lot about this place thought I'd stop in and check it out. I ordered my food and I thought it was placed in and cooking I find out later they were disorganized. They finally put my food and I explained to him that I didn't mind but you know I am on lunch. Next thing I know I get my meal and I cannot eat it. I got to say sometimes I go ahead and eat it if I don't even like it. But this cannot be eaten. The fish had such a fishy taste it was unreal, by the way I eat fresh fish and frozen fish. But the taste of this fish just cannot be handled I tried different pieces and they all taste the same I felt like maybe it was going bad. I do not like throwing food out that you pay good money for but it does happen once in a blue moon.
