Me and my family visited the restaurant at noon, we ordered a few dishes. First is the french fries, it's quite delicious in my opinion, it's just crispy enough, lightly seasoned with salt, not too salty, the only downside is that there are 2 types of sauce and both of them don't go well with it. . 8/10. Next was the tuna with avocado, which was quite good, one piece of fish with one piece of avocado was enough, but they added a little more oil on top (I think to give it a shine), which helps the dish look more beautiful but at the same time makes it unnecessarily fatty, so a slice of bread or eating it with rice may be the solution. 7/10. The sushi was average to average, not bad but for the price of $3 for such a piece of sushi, I wouldn't recommend it. 6/10. And finally, my main course. I ordered a bowl of ramen, the first negative point is that they only have one type of ramen every day and it is listed on the menu as “chef special”, I can ignore this negative point if it is not but what I will experience next experiment. When they brought out the bowl of ramen, I was quite impressed with the presentation, but when I tasted the first spoonful of broth, I knew there was something wrong with this bowl of ramen. First is the broth, the ramen's broth is bland, empty with no flavor at all, it's even like a diluted packet of instant ramen noodles. Next came the eggs, using fried eggs on a bowl of ramen was a mistake, but the egg was fried thoroughly, not a single yolk leaked out when I stuck my chopsticks into it. The beef is probably what can pull this dish apart but the beef is fully cooked, it's still tender but nowhere near medium beef. And it doesn't go well with the noodles either, but it somehow goes well with the dipping sauce of the fries. And the worst thing about this dish is probably the noodles, it's not even cooked yet, it's quite hard, there's no taste at all in the noodles. This ramen dish is like a package of instant noodles with overall water. Next is about service and space, the service is quite good, the only minus point is because the staff asked us too much about whether we needed anything or if it was okay but I think this is an acceptable thing. The space is quite okay, cozy on the inside but there are no umbrellas on the outside and even though it's Arizona's winter, it's still very sunny. The above reviews are intended to improve customer experience and reflect, not to criticize, so please don't misunderstand me. I expect more from a restaurant with this...
Read moreThis sushi bar has a repeat history of robbing customers. They list the "supposed" price of every item on the menu but will charge you more without telling you. Most people may not be catching it, but I did and called it out.
The waiter said customers have been complaining for months about being shown a lesser price on the menu but a higher price on the bill. He said management just isn't bothering to update the menus. Still, I thought, why didn't the waiter tell me while taking my order that it costs more than what the menu handed to me says?
Since the waiter pretended to be powerless to correct the bill for the lessor, correct total, I asked him to let me talk to management myself. He said there's no one in management here to help me. He left me no choice but to pay the higher bill even though he was agreeing with me that it was incorrect. I did and gave him zero tip.
Afterwards, thinking about it more, I wish I didn't pay and just walked out. It bothered me that the business plans on each customer feeling it's not worth it making too much fuss over a few extra dollars. But one customer at a time, every day, all day, for months, that adds up to the thousands of $$$ extra profit by robbery.
I contacted the local police, attorney general, and channel 12 call for action. I don't know if anything will come from that. I'm considering turning in the paperwork at the court office for a civil lawsuit. I wouldn't sue because I need those extra few bucks back but to at least inconvenience and embarrass Squid Ink Sushi Bar for willfully ripping off everyone in the valley.
UPDATE * The Attorney General sent me back a letter about going after Squid Ink for fraud. Soon after, I received an apology check in the mail from Squid Ink. Since my original post here, I've met other people who have told me of also being conned but out of much more money than I was. If you know someone that's another victim, tell them to contact the Attorney General and me. We can both help their lawyers show that Squid Ink has history, precedent, and an ongoing propensity to commit fraud onto the public community.
UPDATE * I'm hearing from people that read this post telling me they're getting similar, bad experience. This is still a problem here, despite how long it's been since I posted...
There was absolutely nothing about my experience here that was good. I came here with my family on Easter, we were coming home for a day out fishing at the lake and stopped in for dinner. We waited to be seated, was told to seat ourselves. We asked for a high chair seeing as we had a 1 1/2 year old with us, and never through out the visit did the server bring one. We got our water but we ordered a coke because a member of our family is a diabetic and their sugar was dropping, we then waited much longer than what it takes to pour a drink for it to come out. When ordering, it was a battle to add a protein to the ramen, which on the menu states add your favorite protein yet we had to argue with our server. And waiting and waiting for our check, with a squirming small child that we never got a high chair for was obviously inconvenient. How ever the worst part was after the terrible service, I chose not to tip, and one of us contributes our time to secret shopping however it was not me so I felt it necessary to let them know that they would've failed. And did not tip because if you do not do your job, which is providing good service why should I tip you? About 15-20 minutes after we left, the server messages me on Facebook. HE TOOK MY INFORMATION OFF MY CREDIT CARD SLIP TO FIND ME!! This is so completely and totally unacceptable and I called and spoke to a manager and they refunded my money for the meal, which ok that was not the problem, I have money. What they found acceptable was just to write up the server because in managements words "he has been here forever" Who says this is the first time he has done this? Most people probably wouldn't come forward if they were embarrassed about not tipping, I am not embarrassed. I did not tip because we received HORRIBLE service not because we do not have money. And apparently to this establishment it is acceptable for their employees to take customers information off credit card receipts when they're "not in a good place" I felt violated and unsafe knowing that someone can take my information off my credit card receipt and the repercussions for BREAKING THE LAW is just a piece of paper. And I just don't want this to continue happening because if that's all they're willing to do who says he won't...
