Sushi Doraku — Restaurant in Peoria

I went here recently and at first I was pleasantly surprised by all the options on the menu. After Sitting down and within 5-7 minutes placing our order, which was good we never received any service after. Only to drop the rolls and leave. I would make multiple eye contact with the waiters and they would never come over or stop, they didn’t even stop by to check on us or see how everything was, but what upset me the most is we ordered five rolls and only received four. Once again nobody ever game to check on us, so how was I to tell them. I don’t like to make a big deal of things, so when we finally got the check after also asking for it they charged us for the roll. I just simply said we did not get this roll, which was only 6.00 could we please have it taken off. The waiter went to the chef and with us so close to the chef he stated that he always puts the California roll on that plate, but he didn’t it was a spicy tuna roll. So the waiter comes back even though we can clearly hear the chef and he continues to tells us we got that roll. I told the waiter to count the plates. We had four plates not five. The waiter goes back to chef and looks at him for what to do. The chef with attitude says, “whatever just take it off”, as if I am lying. This roll was for my daughter, so I am going to know if we got it or not because she shared my husbands and I’s rolls with us. I will always pay for something even if I do not like it, but not getting something at all is different. I have been coming here for almost 2 years and never have complaints about the food or service. Today when we went to lunch, I noticed an extra $1.50 charge to both lunch bento boxes. When I questioned the waiter, he told me the price was increased....didn't I see it!!! Thinking to myself am I blind, so I asked to see a lunch menu again. It doesn't state anywhere on there that the price was increased. I told him he should disclose that to people before ordering their meal. It wouldn't have changed my order but it's just the fact that its dishonest and then to be rude and lie and say it was on the menu as if I was blind. Sadly, I don't want to return to this place. Be careful and check your bills people!

10/12/23 update in response to the owner! Actually, I asked politely about the charge and you gave me an attitude, saying its on the menu...didn't you see! The increase wasn't on the menu, nor did you mention it when you took my order. I don't need you to explain how things have increased, of course they have. But you charged us without disclosing it. Also, I have never taken a to go box, so I don't know who you think you are responding to. Believe me I wasn't being rude. If I were rude I wouldn't even have left a damn 18% tip. The little Mom and Pop places are always the best! This is definitely the best sushi you can find--in this area, at least. We've gone here often but our latest visit was our first time arriving for happy hour. Their prices are on par with other sushi restaurants and their happy hour prices are great! Being the afternoon happy hour, we didn't go all out and just offered some brown rice, squid salad, spicy crab roll, tuna sashimi, and tuna nigiri. The bill came out to about 40 bucks. The squid salad was frickin huge; the largest I've had from any other restaurant and of course, very tasty! The slices of tuna from my sashimi order were the largest I've ever seen as well. Each one took two bites. These guys clearly want to give their customers the best, by serving the best. The presentation on all of our orders was pleasant and quite frankly an unneeded step that was pretty and very much welcome. I wish I would've taken a photo. This is a typical mom and pop place that I would recommend going to instead of a trendy place (that is in the same area) if you want some traditional ambiance and great tasting, fresh fish.
