My boyfriend wanted to take me out to a nice restaurant for my birthday while we were vacationing near Ludington, so we thought we'd try Scotty's because a friend had recommended it. After we placed our orders, the waitress asked if we would like some dinner rolls (they don't automatically come with your meal). They were extremely hot but not at all brown, like they weren't done baking, and collapsed into a wad of dough when we tried to tear them open (after waiting for them to cool off enough to touch). My date had the spinach salad and he said it was very good. He also added a sirloin steak, but said it was tough, and he only ate about half of it. I asked for the classic whitefish, but was told they were out of it, so I ordered the Parmesan crusted whitefish. The fish was good and a large portion, but rather bland. Very little crust, and the caper sauce it was topped with didn't have much flavor. My choice of side dish (you only get one) was the seasonal vegetables. When I asked what they were, the waitress didn't seem to know. She said it was a stir-fry of several fresh vegetables. What I got was a small dish of grilled (not stir fried) zucchini, yellow squash, and a few strips of red peppers. They were good, but a small portion, and not as she had described. The waitress brought our check midway through the meal, and didn't ask if we were interested in getting a dessert. Overall, we were not that impressed with our dining experience at Scotty's. It was okay, I guess, but not enough to make me want to go there a...
Read moreOnion soup way too strong, makes me think the chef hasn't sampled it in years . 1 small slice of cheese and no crouton came out at 500 degrees, and the cheese was literally melted into a non-coherant string in the middle. Had to put ice cubes in to get it cool enough to eat.
Cod was pretty good. I've eaten here a number of times with the wife. It kind of seems hit or miss.
It's supposedly one of the more upscale restaurants in the area. I get that, and from time to time we'll have a server who is less like a Denny's server and more like an upscale one, but that's few and far between.
Most of these servers are going so fast they don't wait to see if you've got another question. I call it drive by serving, they almost threw the plate at you as they drive by! You could actually be talking to them and they're walking away from you already.
What we found in general is that the fish and salad are good. The steaks and meat options are not all that good. I've had pork chops here that were a "special" yet were overcooked, and other food as well seems hit or miss.
Long story short is it seems to have gone downhill over the...
Read moreMy husband and I went in tonight for dinner, it was by far the worst dinner we've ever experienced. We are locals, I've never been and wanted to try their Escargot. I saw there was a lot of good reviews and made me excited. Well jokes was on us. We spent over $100 for the two of us and the food was not tasteful. The escargot is served on canned spinach even. It was so disappointing. The lobster tail honestly was the nastiest tasting lobster I've ever tried to stomach. I had one bite only, left the rest on my plate. The cocktail sauce was ketchup. The spinach and artichoke dip was mainly just warmed up cream cheese with a little spinach inside and shredded cheese on top. Horrible.. Every lemonade we were charged $4 each and every refill, now that wouldn't be a bother if we were told or it was even on the menu, but it wasn't. We will literally never ever go back again. I would rather eat Doritos from between my uncleaned toes than ever try giving that place my service again. I would give it -5 stars if possible. Way too over priced for terrible food. Highly disappointed...
