Speckled Egg Bakery & Gift Shop — Restaurant in Perham

Ordered a white two-tier round 8 inch coconut cake with white powdered sugar old fashioned, Bakery style frosting for my birthday. Paid $43.15 and got a white cake with some whipped type of yellow frosting and a sparse amount of coconut sprinkled on the top of the cake and none on the sides. Couldn't stand the frosting. The cake was okay and there was hardly any coconut on top and none on the sides. I called to tell the girl Katya or whatever her name is that I was unhappy with my birthday cake and explained and then said goodbye. She called me back and said she wanted to make it right so I went on to explain and pulled out the recipe for the old fashioned bakery-style powdered sugar frosting which she seemed to be somewhat familiar with. She merely said that the next time she would try to do better that is, the next time I ordered. Here she initially said that she wanted to make it right when she first called me. But if she wanted to make it right why didn't she? She should have said I'll make you another one the way you wanted but instead said the next time you order something I'll try to do better for you and apologized and that was all. That was how she made it up to me. So $43.15 was for nothing. My husband is taking it down to the neighbors because he doesn't like the frosting either. White Coconut cake happens to be both of our favorite cake.

Since I posted the above she called me and offered to make it right and is going to make another cake at no charge so we'll follow up here later. I believe she sincerely wants to make it right and wants her business to thrive. **UPDATE: Katea made another Coconut White Cake and it is scrumptious!! The cake is fluffy, frosting moist and coconut flaky. It tastes VERY delicious! Thank you as and we recommend this bakery!!! One more thing I want to say is the white frosting with the loaded coconut is to die for and I believe it should be one of her additional trademarks. All of you white cake lovers out there make sure to order a white cake from her and if you don't like coconut on it well you won't be sorry about this frosting it is so fantastic and smooth you will love it love love love love...

WOW! This quaint old fashioned boutique and eatery thoroughly impressed us...especially the ravenous appetite of my husband who tried several items last week and concluded

1. Croissants: second to none, this was the best raspberry cream chesse croissant my tongue has ever tasted. A perfect balance of taste and texture! NOT too rich so you can enjoy TWO of these delicate masterpieces in one sitting.
2. Kolache: a pleasant surprise for the first experience trying something new. A collision of juicy sausage (jalapeño & warm cheese) wrapped in a fresh pillowy white bread. No condiments needed here! I enjoyed every bite, especially the 3rd bite or so when the slow build of the jalapeños started to kick in to take me to the finish line.

Wash both of these down with a iced brown sugar shaken espresso (ADD extra shot of coffee for enhanced experience). Keep up the good work...

Too bad "Kevin Olson" believes another version of their desired frosting isn't matched the way they want it-who does that to a business? Request it all you want- but then if it isn't your certain style-give a 1 star??!! This is a small town mother daughter startup business...1 year in the making-CONGRATS by the way! I've traveled at least 10 states of the Midwest year after year thoroughly- and been in bakeries everywhere-over 150 easily-and the quality of their goods(Speckled Egg) is at the top- and I include those in the biggest cities that charge double.
