First I would like to clearly state that this review is in response to the food that was served to me at Atria’s in McMurray. Some other factors played into my experience but after my first bite, I felt obligated to share this experience. While a truly awful experience is shaped by terrible food served by miserable or incapable people, this was mainly an experience of subpar food. My waitress was pleasant, attentive, and I would gladly be served by her again.
When a customer first walks into Atria’s in McMurray you are embraced by a trendy bar and upscale dining room. The bar area was very full of quiet well-dressed people and the main dining room was barely half full. Apparently two people dressed for their anniversary dinner throw up a flags to the hostess that we should be seated in a crammed back dining room. I guess that we should have worn something more formal than white button up shirt, tie, vest, and my wife in a stunning dress. Unlike this main dining room with engineered lighting, table cloths, booths, and a quiet crowd; this back dining room had bright lighting, groups of 4 or more, no table cloths, and was so loud we felt as if we were at a bar during a sports game. There were people singing happy birthday and the waitresses cycled in and out of the room obnoxiously shaking martini’s table side each time someone ordered them. The atmosphere quickly turned into something I would expect at a national chain restaurant. Unfortunately the most comfortable point during the meal was when I had to walk through that gorgeous main dining room on my way to the restroom. The hostess needs some serious training, she has likely cost them many customers.
Lastly and most importantly, the food. We started with some bruschetta and we were very excited for the entre. In an attempt to taste a variety of the menu, I ordered the Seafood Trio ($24) which consisted of orange glazed salmon, grilled shrimp, green beans, rice, and a crab cake. According to their menu Atria’s is known for their crab cakes, and I agree they were quite good but it could hardly be considered a true crab cake. It was on the order of a large amuse-bouche, easily eaten in 2 large or 3 small bites. The green beans were crisp, well-seasoned, and likely fresh. The rice was dry and had the texture that it was scraped from the side of a rice cooker that has been on all day. The salmon was likely the most awful piece of fish I have eaten in years. Beyond its pitiful size and lack of seasoning, It had a distinct fishy taste and odd texture which leads me to believe that it was either frozen or in the refrigerator too long. The orange glaze was not that good and had no chance of rescuing its’ salmon base. The plate was graced with three (3) medium-small sized grilled shrimp. The grilled shrimp were incredibly tough and dry with absolutely no seasoning. Their texture and flavor hints that they may have also been frozen or just cooked into oblivion. After tasting my wife’s steak ($29) it is clear they do not season anything, at least not to the degree it deserves.
We will never go back to Atria’s in McMurray and urge that if you want nice expensive meal with a guarantee that it will be good, go...
Read moreAtria's, any location frankly, has been a staple of our family for two generations now. While growing up in Greentree, we frequented the original location. Now, while living out in Washington, I frequent the McMurray location. I cant recall the last time I had a bad meal at an Atria's location. My favorite was always the meatloaf. It shines as either a seasonal dish or a menu standard (it did enjoy a short time on the full menu). The service was always top notch and the food prepared splendidly. The option to al fresco done provides excellent options for the molder seasons.
While the McMurray location is not as intimate or vintage as the original and does not provide valet service, the food is consistent with the original and the service likewise.
When I was in last, I ordered Atria's classic chicken sandwich off of the summer menu and an Arnold Palmer (not on the menu, but the waitress gladly facilitated the simple half tea, half lemonade drink). I was checked on regularly before and during my meal and appropriate amount. The preparation of the sandwich was delicious. The chicken was juicy. And the sweet of the pineapple blended well with the savory of the chicken and bourbon sauce. It takes some attention to prep such a dish that has the ability/propensity to be far to wet and make it balanced. My bun held together and there was little mess. The fries were simple but cooked correctly with a solid crisp on the outside and soft potato inside.
I always look forward to my meals at Atria's. If you have not yet done with them...please do.
It has been a while, but their drink selection of diverse and interesting as well. They offer the classics as well as some of their own creations to keep your...
Read moreIf I could give more stars I would. I’m in town for business and it’s late at night, I don’t have a rental car or anything, so I’m surfing GrubHub and find this place. I place an order and my estimated delivery time was 10:30-10:40 PM. At around 10:35 PM I see that the order still hasn’t been picked up and that my estimated delivery time changed to 11:20-11:30 PM. I called Atria’s and talked to a nice lady who told me my food was ready, they were just waiting on a GH driver. So I then called GH and they couldn’t tell me when a driver would be able to pick up my order. I didn’t want to cancel the order since they had already prepared my food, that wouldn’t be fair to them, but I don’t have a rental car or means of transportation. I had to cancel the order. Roughly 20 minutes later, I get a phone call and it’s the General Manager Jason, he lets me know that he was about to head home and that he doesn’t live far from where I’m staying and that he would have his cook fix another plate for me and bring it to me. I can not express how much that meant to me, not because I was terribly hungry, but because I too work for the public and understand, that isn’t an easy phone call to make and one that really isn’t warranted. They didn’t do anything wrong. But they care about the customer, and we need more businesses like this. Great job guys. I don’t come to the area often, but from here on out when I’m in the area, my business is with you guys.
PS. I ordered a burger, it was phenomenal, just like...
