A truly embarrassingly bad experience. We were looking for a place close to the Sheraton and the Friends headquarters building for out of town visitors with mobility issues. The location is scenic and pleasant although there is a lot of poilice, ambulance, and super loud ATVs. (Not their fault of course.)
But the food, service, and other attributes are a shame , especially since I think this location had to have been specially permitted to be built in a public park area ( that was my impression). Frozen egg (seriously??) in the skimpy breakfast sandwich ( all are skimpy) , many menu items unavailable, soups that were tasteless except for salt (we tried all three), no choice of breads at lunch time, and really awful croutons on the Caesar salad (there is so little to a Caesar salad - the croutons play an important role), all make the prices outrageous. There is no waiter service, which is congruent with a cafe setting, but the counter service was astobishingly slow, indifferent, and forgetful . The plates are tiny floppy plastic numbers that threaten to collapse under the measly, unimpressive, and underfilled sandwiches before a diner can get them to a table.
The bathroom was dirty, untidy, and not well stocked. For being a locked resource, it was rather clearly not cherished. There were almost no other customers there so what was the excuse for lack of maintenance?
The place was not even readily accessible with mobility aids because the doors are awkward and the egress to the patio is largely blocked.
The romaine in the salad was fresh - I want to give credit for that achievement. The ice water (when the staff was reminded to get it ), was cold. The landscaping has been improved and is now stunning but may be someone else’s responsibility .
Otherwise it was an infuriatingly ill-managed and overpriced embarrassment as an introduction to Philly for folks who don’t visit often. What a ghastly impression it makes. With this prime location it can be a gold mine without being a tourist trap - we hope that other diners will have a better...
Read moreI ordered a fruit smoothie thinking I would receive a fresh fruit smoothie. As I waited for my smoothie I observed the guy pour contents from a carton into the blender. I proceeded to ask if he was making my fruit smoothie and he stated he was. I then advised that I no longer wanted the smoothie as I was under the impression it was a fresh smoothie. The guy ringing me up asked what I wanted in place of the smooth and I stated I did not want anything and just wanted a refund. I was told I could not get a refund and that if he gave me a refund, David, the owner would take it out of his check. I asked the guy to call the manager or owner regarding same, however he was unable to contact David via the telephone. I again asked for my refund and ask that they sort it out with the manager. I was again told no. Finally, the other employee, a female gave me my refund. Today as I was walking to my apartment as I live across the street, I saw David at the register and decided to call him and advise him of the situation. When I called I was told he was in a meeting. I advised the female who answered the phone that I just saw him at the register and would like to talk to him. She would not let me talk to him and hung the phone. I called back and asked to speak to him again, reluctantly he came to the phone and confirmed that is the way they operate their business. Once you pay for an item you cannot get a refund and if a customer is given a refund employees will get monies deducted from their paycheck. This is unethical business practice as well as unethical to their employees. David was so rude and so unprofessional. I will never spend another dollar at this business. News flash if you are going to be rude to customers, you loose money and for this you will never receive another dollar from me. No surprise that so many received the same experience that I have received (rude employees and rude...
Read moreOn September 1st 2014, Labor Day, my husband and I were visiting Philadelphia. We wanted a have a good cup of cappuccino and so decided to go to the Capriccio coffee shop near the love park in center city. By far this is the worst place to get a good cup of cappuccino from. Firstly, the waitress got my order wrong. I specifically told her that I'll be having my coffee at the shop. Yet she prepared my coffee to go. When I pointed that out, she poured the coffee abruptly from the cup into the mug straightaway and presented it to me with a rude attitude. This ruined the consistency of the cappuccino. Her rude attitude also appalled some of the other customers and shocked me with how horribly people treat others. Some people may just not be cut out for dealing with people in a positive way.
Being an avid cappuccino drinker and knowing that their is a way a good cup is brewed, I wouldn't stand for this. Instead of arguing with her as I clearly got the idea that she doesn't have much time for her customers, I made another order specifying that I need it in a cup paying full price again. It turned out just as bad. I guess some places are just not meant to remain open. I read another review mentioned by another woman mentioning this redhead and that she complained about "having to open the store" in front of customers. Seems like I am not the only person.
Coffee drinkers.....be aware of the quality and service. You are better with Starbucks which is...
