Tir na nOg is a quintessential Irish pub I've enjoyed in various ways: first as a patron, briefly as a barback, and now as a regular customer again. It's an excellent spot for sports fans, with TVs placed throughout the space, ensuring a great view no matter where you sit.
The staff are incredibly warm, kind, and welcoming--a big part of why I joined the team at one point. The food is fantastic for its category, with standout dishes like the smash burger, fish tacos, and fish and chips. The bartenders are knowledgeable and approachable, and while my liquor knowledge is limited, their whiskey selection appears extensive and well-curated. I always go for a Guinness here, and they pour a perfect pint every time--it's clear they take pride in keeping their taps and beer lines clean.
Conveniently located near Suburban Station, the pub's atmosphere is bright and inviting, with big windows that set it apart from the typical dimly lit pub. The crowd is an interesting mix of European charm and Philly's no-nonsense, down-to-earth vibe, making it a place where everyone feels welcome. The space is also large, with plenty of seating at the bar or tables, making it ideal for groups. If the weather cooperates, the outdoor seating is another great option.
Tir na nOg opens early for soccer fans and is lively during big matches. Whether you're a local or visiting Philly, this pub offers an excellent combination of good food, drinks, and a warm sense of community at a fair price. I'll keep returning and highly recommend it to anyone seeking a welcoming and authentic...
Read moreNice ambiance, good beer selection, and the noise level is such you can hold a conversation. Great selection of food and beer. with pleasant and accomidating staff. We were a party of six and ordered burgers, salads, and fish and chips. Well I and another ordered the fish and chips as there was no shepards pie. According to my compagnes the burgers and fries were good, as was the salad. However, two of us made the mistake of ordreing the fish and chips. You would think I would have learned my lesson, but everytime I have ordered fish and chips, I have been sorely disappointed. Tir na Nog was no exception, except perhaps it might rate as one of the worst I have had. Their fish has successfully nailed the ammonia odor, it was almost like cleaning fluid. I ate about half and regretted it. I did look up ammonia odor in fish and found the following:
Uncooked spoiled seafood can have sour, rancid, fishy, or ammonia odors. These odors become stronger after cooking. If you smell sour, rancid, or fishy odors in raw or cooked seafood, do not eat it. If you smell either a fleeting or persistent ammonia odor in cooked seafood, do not eat it
So, I guess I ate...
Read moreWent after visiting the Christmas Village. I have been here a few times for happy hours in the past, thinking it would be a good idea. WRONG. The waitress that seated us served a table after we were sat. Waited 20min before I had to literally “raise my hand and say excuse me,” like a mentally unwell person in order to be acknowledged. An excuse was made and we were served. Food menu is extremely limited. Shrimp as the app was bland and mushy (toasted bread served with it inedible). Ordered the Reuben, was salty af, bread fried…my dude got the fish tacos, which he liked. For the location, honestly don’t know how they maintain their rent bc it’s obviously not by food alone. Beautiful building, inside is gorgeous. I’d never return to eat, so if you are hungry, I’d literally eat anywhere else. Just drinks, maybe.
Convenience of location (to Xmas village): 5 Service: 2 (and I’m being generous) Food: 2 (I’ve had better food in almost every bar I’ve been in Philly) Price: OVERPRICED considering previously mentioned things
Paying CC prices for less than mediocre service/food than your local watering spot
maybe it was a bad day, but would...
