This escape room experience is very highly recommended! My team and I went through the Chamber of Horrors, and as my 94th escape room, I have to say this easily makes it into my top 5. The sets and atmosphere were superbly well done. The space is expansive, and part of the joy was being able to explore such a vast space full of scenic moments and really clever puzzles! As a fan of escape rooms and the horror genre, I have to say that there were even a few moments that unnerved me- a grand endorsement of how immersive the experience truly was. We joined up with a group of three other folks, and Iâm sure there wasnât a single moment when we felt unable to contribute in some meaningful way. The asymmetric nature of the game ensures that your team and their specific strengths can all be showcased without running into bottlenecks and people standing around waiting. Our game master, Alan, was a great help, making sure that some of the tricky technical aspects of the game were running and we were aware of any of the challenges we may not have picked up on intuitively.
We also took the chance to visit the Sleeping Spirits room- a wonderfully atmospheric haunted experience. While smaller than the Chamber, it proved no less entertaining and exciting for our smaller group. We all had great moments where the discoveries we each made led to some great story development. I have never felt more like a paranormal detective helping some spirits find peace...or perhaps something more sinister! Another entry into the top five for sure.
All in all- Gotham Escape Rooms is a welcome addition to the thriving escape room market in Philadelphia. I would 100% recommend this team building exercise for anyone who wants to lose themselves in a room that feels more like living through a movie. I cannot wait to experience their other rooms (with 6 in total, itâll keep me busy...
Read moreI love escape rooms, so when I came to Philly for a conference, I had to try Gotham Escape Room! I did Game of Stones with a group of 6 people on a Saturday ($35/person). I will also shoutout the front desk staff for their flexibility because I was coordinating a few groups of people for the conference, and they were patient and understanding.
Though people in my group were Game of Thrones fans, you do not need background knowledge to complete the room. Two things that stand out about the room: 1) you have to put your phones and watches in a locked chest 2) there is no clue board/time clock in the room. I have been to one other room like this, and I'm not the biggest fan of not being able to monitor time. There are also unlimited clues. We tried to use one, but either we were on the right track or our clue master did not hear us, so we solved the room without any hints! I appreciated that the puzzles were diverse and made logical sense. It was clear what clues unlocked what puzzles, and it was the appropriate level of challenge. I was impressed at how the room was put together and thoroughly enjoyed!
As other people have mentioned, one con about this room is that it is dark, and you cannot use your phones. I think that adds an annoying challenge rather than a fun challenge, especially if you cannot "unlock" more light. The only other critique I have is that you do not need a lot of people to solve this room because it is pretty linear, but the price is so expensive! I still want to check out their other rooms the next time we return, but will aim to do it on a weekday when...
Read moreHad a wonderful time doing an early celebration of my and my sister's birthdays with our family, the room was VERY atmospheric and well designed with some clever puzzles and cinematic set pieces. Charlotte was a very helpful game master. We had an excellent time and all of us want to come back!
One thing to note: the Sleeping Spirits room had an instance where a light object (a coat or a pillow) falls on top of someone. I think it's intended to fall on someone because it's right around where someone would be standing as they were solving the puzzle that causes the object to fall. We felt this was not really safe, as for some people this might cause a neck injury or exacerbate a pre-existing one.
To anyone with significant injuries: disclose these to your game master beforehand to make sure the room is safe!
To Center City Escape Room: we all had an excellent time, and I hope this is taken as feedback for improving the experience, rather than criticism. I don't want to be negative. Everyone in my family understands how in most cases a coat falling on your head is a fun jump scare, but if we had known about this we might have picked a...
