Golden Lake Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in Philadelphia

Golden Lake has been here long enough to have gotten basic things under control. But they’re not even close – mediocre food, ineptly prepared and served, with a glaze of bad attitude. We ordered takeout for two on Christmas Night: Shrimp rolls (hard, dry and pasty, a tough combination to achieve), hot and sour soup (heavy hand with the heat, and not much other discernable taste, but this was the best of our order), Triple Delight (unremarkable and with some soft, tofu-maybe discs probably meant to augment the about ¼ oz of actual lobster, advertised to be part of the dish.) Finally, mushy, moo shu pork, delivered without the required pancakes and sauce. We called to ask they send these along and were told that they had run out of pancakes, “but that’s OK, we’ll give you a free pancake the next time you come.” We advised them it was not OK and that they wouldn’t have the chance see us again. Honestly not sure where to start. I usually order Chinese about twice a year, since it's all my body can handle. I saw these guys were new, so thought I would give them a shot. It was...not good.

The dumplings looked and tasted like they came straight from a bag. The scallion pancake was undercooked and crazy greasy--we had to finish cooking it ourselves. General Tso's was soggy. And the chicken fried rice...oh man. It was just bad. Maybe the worst I've ever had. It looked like the rice was boiled in chicken stock and tossed with poached chicken strips. No sauteeing, definitely no frying, and insanely bland.

The cold noodles were solid and are the reason I'm giving them 2 stars. I don't think I'll be back, though, especially given the quality and the prices they charge. American Chinese should be cheap and decent. This...

So I’ve always been a golden chopsticks fan but lately their wasn’t as good anymore so I tried Golden Lake instead. I ordered general tso chicken which barely had any flavor/spice but it looks very appetizing. The egg roll was nice & crispy, the fried shrimp dumplings were bland & the side of garlic sauce was okay. The food was fresh, hot & looks good but the flavor is missing. The customer service was good too & the passion smoothie (really a icy) was really good. If the flavor was there this would be 5 star. But I’d definitely order drinks & egg...
