I don’t normally write reviews for restaurants but we had such a disappointing time at honey that I wanted to share. We came and put our name in and were told 40 minutes, that was fine, it’s a popular brunch restaurant. It didn’t look full so we figured maybe we’ll get seated sooner maybe not. About 30 minutes go by and countless people who came in after us got seated ahead of us. We were told since we have 5 people we have to wait specifically for a “5 top table” and cannot sit at a table meant for 4. I used to waitress and we never made people who were more than willing to pull a chair over wait when there were available tables. We chose to let this go. It’s now been about it an hour, multiple people had come and gone prior to us being seated. I believe the hostess could tell we were getting a bit frustrated. She then proceeded to approach us to let us know there was one more table ahead of us (which they indeed weren’t ahead of us as we watched them walk in, but I feel as though the hostess staff felt the need to make a point) and “try not to get too upset when we didn’t get seated next”. If I had not already been waiting over an hour I would have walking right out at that point. It was incredibly rude and I believe anyone waiting to sit for an hour and 15 minutes would feel a little frustrated beings multiple “4 tops” had been sat within minutes of arriving. We then were placed at an incredibly small table meant for 4, crammed together, and did indeed have to pull a chair over. When one of our friends asked why we couldn’t have sat at a table meant for 4 earlier, we were merely dismissed. After that we see the host staff and busboy warning our waiting of us, consistently pointing in our directing, and being incredibly rude. The waiter there on was very cold towards us and never once introduced himself he just came over asked for our order and left. It’s the holidays and being a former waitress I never take any bad experience out on a wait staff so we ate a meal that was fine, nothing to rave about (nothing to wait over an hour for), tipped nicely, and left. It was a weekend my friends and family were celebrating Christmas, so to be treated so poorly at our first stop of the day was very disappointing. For as many hosts as they have, the seating process felt very unorganized and definitely needs some updating. Probably won’t be returning, the food was fine and nothing I would have to have again if it means putting up with another day of...
Read moreNew to the Philly scene and my partner who once lived close by decided brunch on a Sunday must be at Honey’s. When I inquired he summarized it by saying someone’s Jewish grandma came up with some bomb recipes that had just enough seasoning and the open- faced biscuit is the star of the show.
Truth be told, I had my doubts and was clueless about what the heck an open- faced biscuit was. We got there shortly after 12 and the placed was packed both indoor and outside. We had a 20 mins wait which gave us just enough time to stroll the block and check out the nearby plant shop.
Once we were called we immediately ordered lemon iced tea and hot chais. Chai was great. Tea was refreshing but a tad earthy for my taste. Adding a splash of raw sugar didn’t help so I moved on. And then it was time for food. We started to order the fish and grits but was told one of the items they use for the sauce was missing and it drastically changed things so we stuck to (2) of the Jeb’s open -faced biscuit, vegan sausage, egg whites scrambled hard, and I had home fries while my partner had grits with his.
Baybeeee! Listen, when I tell you this is the best breakfast I have EVER had; I tell no lies. First off the biscuit really is all that. A tiny hint of honey surfaces with each bit but it’s not overly sweet. The texture is crispy on the shed without losing its moisture and it’s not overly dense making you feel stuffed. The eggs were perfection, sausage yummier than expected and the home fries were perfectly seasoned with sautéed onions and peppers.
I danced all over that plate two stepping between sausage and eggs, eggs and biscuit, biscuit and sausage… you get the drift. My mouth had a sweet little party and I was only able to eat a half of said meal. You know I shamelessly asked for a container and took my leftovers.
Half way on the drive back to NYC I ate that sucker cold and the best part is it tasted just as good if not better. This is now at the top of ny favorite list in Philly. Please do yourself a favor and stop by.
My only regret is that I don’t...
Read moreI was so excited to come here just to leave so upset and disappointed. After watching several groups of people sit down, order, eat and leave. My boyfriend and I never received our food and were only checked on after about 35 minutes of waiting. We were told the kitchen “fumbled” and was “backed up” and were being told periodically the food should be coming out. However, after about the 45 minute mark of waiting and still watching several larger tables receive their food that arrived way after we did, our server told us our drinks were taken care of (a coffee and lemonade) and brought out one of our sides of potato towards the end of our wait. However we waited another 10 minutes to just continue seeing other people get their entire meals. Needless to say we were hungry and upset so we gathered our things and approached the lady in front to pay for our drinks since the drinks were not the issue with our experience. I’m not sure if she was the manager or person in charge. But she said she was going to check on the food and went to the kitchen just to come out and tell us that the food is coming up right now. We were already up and upset so we insisted we just wanted to pay for the drinks and go. There was never really a proper apology or solution offered, for whatever the reason was that the food never came out. She just told us our drinks were paid for so we’re good to go if we don’t wanna wait, so we left. Collectively (including the wait time for a table) we spent about 1hour and 30 minutes and our food never came out (excluding the side of potato that was brought out in the last 10 minutes of our waiting). We understand the business and mistakes that can happen however, they say the kitchen fumbled and was backed up but had no issues getting full orders out for all the other tables. Our server was nice, the lady (manager/host person) wasn’t mean, but I wouldn’t say all that helpful either. It’s unfortunate we didn’t get to try the food, it all looked really good (on other...
