My partner and I were interested in scouting out several neighborhoods in Philly, Queen Village being one of them, with the thought of possibly relocating from Brooklyn, NY. None of the hotels in the vicinity we researched were desirable for one reason or another. Somehow, we stumbled across the Yowie Hotel and were so glad that we did. Upon arriving at the hotel, we had the pleasure of running into Everett, one of the owners, a down to earth, friendly man, who immediately made us feel welcomed. He encouraged not to hesitate to contact him with any questions, for restaurant recommendations, or anything else. In fact, a bit after we checked into our room, Everett gave me a call to tell me that there was a good parking spot in front of the hotel, and he stood there, along with his wife, until I could bring my car around and secure the spot! Room 202, where we stayed, was artistically decorated, which I would characterize as modern, whimsical and minimalist. Our room was airy, immaculate and comfortable with a relaxing vibe. A kitchenette was a plus. Thoughtfully, a wide array of items that guests may have forgotten, were available in a small cabinet at the end of the hallway. To sum up, Yowie is a great spot for a...
Read moreI stayed in room 206, the cozy queen, three nights on a work/fun trip.
Check in was a breeze - you use a code to get in both the front and room doors and a small elevator greets you right as you enter the front door.
Service is hard to gauge. It’s minimalist by design. I didn’t receive anything but also didn’t ask for anything. Dunno if turndown service is available - I came back each day and my room was as I left it.
The room is cute, and the bathroom is particularly lovely. The room, however, is too efficient for its own good. There is no place to sit other than the bed. No desk, no chair, no good place to set up the ironing board. There is also no microwave, and just the small fridge which is full of mini bar cans.
The space is loud. They provide earplugs which is helpful, but when your neighbor wakes you up at 6:30 in the morning blasting pink pony girl, earplugs can only do so much.
The best part about the hotel is the location, right along South Street. It’s a great base of operations to see basically anywhere in the city. I didn’t feel the need to have a car.
Yowie is a novel experience but I have a hard time recommending this particular room given its limitations. Perhaps the larger rooms offer a...
Read moreFANTASTIC!!! I stayed in Suite 302 for a graduation weekend. It is located in a beautiful residential area with some interesting restaurants/stores within walking distance. I was nervous about not having staff onsite, but the code to get in worked great and the staff answers you promptly by text if you need. But the room was the real showstopper-- artfully decorated, pristine in terms of cleanliness (and I am very picky about that), and an overall cool vibe. I loved the attention to style/health conscious detail: high end shampoo/body wash (Malin+Goetz), non-alcoholic mocktails, juices/seltzers in the fridge and healthy savory and perhaps locally sourced popcorn, chips, and sweets-- also the mini bar prices on those were less than half the price at a commercial hotel. I also loved that the sources of everything the room down to the drawer pulls and paint/wallpaper are listed in a coffee table book. I now have new ideas for decorating my daughter's apartment! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE everything about...
