This our dog's and our family's favorite dog park in South Philadelphia. It offers a large, mulched area for dogs to romp off leash and a secure, 2-step metal gate to enter. It's the only dog park we've visited that also has a separate gated area for small or timid dogs to relax off leash. There are free poop bags, lots of trash containers and multiple benches for pet parents to hang out. They even provide tennis balls and ball tossers to use. In season, there is a dog water fountain, and they sometimes run an oscillating sprinkler (our dog was not a fan ). The park is free and open to all, but regular users are encouraged to pay a voluntary $50 annual membership fee for park maintenance. The park receives no funds from the city. There is a paid parking garage across the street. The Dog Park is accessible 24/7, but realize that the lighting from the adjacent playground is dim if you visit at night. Children are not allowed in the dog park, but there is an adjacent playground. We come before 6am in the winter and our dog has the park to himself. Other dog owners are good at watching their dogs and monitoring for any signs of stress/aggression. Have never had a problem with...
Read moreTotally agree with Corey’s review. The park is well maintained and the new turf is very much an improvement over the previous mulch. However, the man who walks around pressuring people to donate is extremely rude. Enough so that he is the sole reason I will never return to the park. (And I too hope he reads this). I am already a member of another dog park and I live too far to visit Seger dog park regularly. I visit twice annually (at best) - during the summer when they have Tuesday “Woofstock” yappy hours. I support by purchasing drinks and tipping extra. The man was extremely rude, argumentative and tried to embarrass me for not joining on the spot after I politely declined a membership and explained my current situation. He later scolded me and another girl sitting next to me about not picking up another dog’s feces. The dog was neither of ours and I was keeping a close eye on my own dog (who I had already cleaned up after twice). He was misdirecting his frustration at us instead of toward those who were not being attentive...
Read moreI really really want to like this dog park but 2 out of 2 times I have had bad experiences. The first time a dog kept biting mine (more than puppy bites) and the owner was no where to be found. We ended up leaving although my dog did make some super nice friends. Although, the second visit was especially bad. We went when there were only 10 dogs in the park and a dog named “George” (a golden colored poodle or poodle mix) bit my dog several times. My dog is very submissive so she laid there unsure of what to do. When the owner saw this he just kept saying “George” and did not help to get his dog off of her. When separating George from my dog I quickly realized that if it wasn’t for all her floof (she is a Samoyed) he easily would have punctured her skin. Posting this solely to warn others. I understand things happen but it’s a bigger problem when a dog is getting aggressive and their owner can’t handle them, does not apologize, and stays at...
