I’m not the type of person to leave negative reviews, but after walking out of Menagerie Coffee feeling uneasy twice, I feel compelled to share.
There’s one staff member at this cafe, possibly the manager, whose attitude is so off-putting that it casts a shadow over the entire place. I don’t know if they’re just generally rude or if something deeper is going on (possibly even discriminatory), but either way, their behavior is unacceptable.
A few months ago, I came in with my service dog, who is very well-behaved, and was told I had to leave. Meanwhile, others in the cafe had dogs with no issue. It felt targeted and unfair. I left quietly because it was Thanksgiving and I had finished my coffee. I didn’t want to argue with someone who clearly wasn’t worth the energy.
I stayed away for months because of that experience. Today I gave it another try, and unfortunately, the same staff member was there and just as rude, again, for no clear reason. Some people simply shouldn’t work in customer service, and when that person is the manager, it sets a toxic tone for everyone else.
It’s a shame because when this individual isn’t around, the rest of the staff has actually been quite kind and welcoming. But ultimately, it’s not worth the energy drain. Cute space, yes, but the vibe is off. I wouldn’t recommend supporting a place where people are...
Read moreI was the first person to come in this morning. The staff were all kind and helpful. The Rwanda pour over was balanced, silky and sweet with nice fruity and subtly floral notes. The cinnamon scroll was flaky and soft, a fun treat to enjoy. The bagel had cream cheese which was easy to spread, making it a delicious breakfast.
I personally find it a little awkward when I’m the only person there, and the baristas call out my order. If I’m the only guest in the building, taking my food/drink out to me would make my experience a little more memorable. It’s just a small opinion, but that might make a more personable hospitality experience. However what I remember more about the service here is how the baristas knew customers names, were friendly and approachable.
The space is beautiful, creative and is a wonderful place to get some morning sun, read, catch up with a friend or grab a coffee while...
Read moreKeep wanting to like this place since I love the Old City location, but I think I’m going to stop trying. I’ve never felt welcome here - it always feels like I’m inconveniencing the staff by just existing and placing an order. Most recently I ordered a coffee and a breakfast sandwich. They told me the sandwich would take 9 minutes on the grill and I said that was fine. Almost 20 minutes later I go to check in and they have no idea what sandwich I’m talking about. It was not busy and there was maybe 6 staff members hanging out in the kitchen. I didn’t have time to wait another 10 minutes so they refunded me. Things happen of course, tickets get lost, but it just feels like no one cares or wants to be there. The coffee and food are decent but not worth feeling like an...
