Oteri's Italian Bakery — Restaurant in Philadelphia

Decided to go here for my son's birthday cake because I went here a few years back but let me tell you, this place has tanked since than. This has nothing to do with the current worlds situation, this has plenty to do with forgetting to make the cake then calling the customer at the time he's supposed to pick up the cake saying that there isn't one. The excuse given, "was that a cake truck was "stolen"" when in fact this place is supposed to be a bakery and I was to pick up the cake from there. Then the image for the cake was misplaced but they only had the receipt. The lady on the phone laughed about the messed up situation while I'm on the other line explaining as calmly as I can that my son's bday is in 2 hours. I would have just accepted the honest answer of them forgetting to make the cake and just owning up to it but all of that, the laughing and when told how unprofessional the business is pulling this stunt the lady quickly hung up the phone. Makes you wonder why a "bakery" would store their cake in a truck overnight if it is to be picked up in the store the next day, doesn't it? Definitely never purchasing a cake from here again and suggest anyone reading this honest review to avoid going here too or your cake might end up getting stolen from this "bakery's" cake truck the night before picking up from...

I called them last minute to make a cake for me. They said they could accommodate me by making the cake in time. The woman on the phone told me to pick up all the stuff I wanted to decorate the cake and bring it by the bakery that day along with a deposit. I ran around getting the stuff I wanted them to put on top of the cake, went to the bakery and dropped everything off including the deposit. I gave the young lady all the stuff I purchased for the cake and was not very particular with the cake but for I did ask for chocolate (which I was charged $3.00 extra... whatever they are accommodating me right). Then I was charged $.50 to use my debit card (ummmm what, the cake is $78.00... whatever they are accommodating me right). I go to pick up the cake and was so disappointed... the cake was bare but for icing! Why did they ask me to bring all the stuff into the bakery if you weren't going to decorate it? So annoyed and disappointed. The cake tasted okay definitely...

Extremely upset over this experience. I usually order a strawberry shortcake every year for my husband's birthday this was the cake his mother made him or got for him every year before she passed. I continued to get Strawberry Shortcakes for his birthday each year. I use bakeries that are highly recommended. I have used Oteris in the past with no issue. This time I ordered his cake and had it delivered. He took one slice. He said, the cake was dry even the icing was inedible. He asked if they had given him " the display cake" by accident. I just want an edible cake. The cake was delivered on Friday you can have it back to taste it yourself. It was not a good cake. I hope that tourist coming in for the superbowl parade didn't come here. Philly is known for our good food this didn't represent at all. I gave you 2 stars because I've had good cupcakes, cakes and pastries from you...
