Planted on the corner of Pine Street and South 26th Street—Royhome Coffee is very much a Fitler Square neighborhood gem. The coffee / pretzel sandwich shop is located near Schuykill River Park & Trail, so you can get your run or walk in and stop in for some fine coffee or tasty calories. The coffee shop is housed in a former barroom. the interior is pretty narrow and small, but it is neatly kept and has that old school charm. there’s a little bit of seating in the back past where pretzel sandwiches are made. there is also more seating outside. be prepared for lines on the weekends as lines often snake out the front door—these lines are primarily for people ordering the various pretzel sandwiches options. there also grab-n-go options like croissants.
been here twice so far— ordered two Americanos (think the roast might have been Là Colombo idk) but they were both much needed and had a smooth flavored taste as I enjoyed both on two fairly cold days as traversed Philadelphia. anyway there’s an extensive coffee menu here and it’s clear coffee is a priority here even if many come through for the sandwiches. definitely will try one of the pretzel sandwiches one of these days when there’s not a huge line.
the staff are friendly and keep the lines of hungry people moving. the crowds on the weekend are neighborhood folk and destination hungover eaters—so your mileage might vary as i have experienced the friendliness low-key regulars as well as the lack of self- aware people who are nursing post booze blues and act a bit gruffer if not outright rude.

Read moreI want to give them 4.5. It wasn’t perfect but it was definitely worth it. I had the pretzel sandwich with vegan sausage. It was really tasty. Everything was hot, the cheese was gooey and flavor was just right to not overpower other flavors. I also had a Colombe americano. The coffee was actually the star of my experience. For Colombe, the barista did a fantastic job making it have quality flavor. The cooks did a great job with the sandwich too. It wasn’t their fault it wasn’t perfect. The pretzels aren’t actually fresh. They hang out in a cardboard box above the grill, pre-sliced. That’s fine for expediency, it just comes with the cost of a perfect sandwich. Pretzels don’t take long to cook. Additionally, raw frozen pretzels are a thing. In 5 minutes, the frozen raw pretzel turns into this piece of artwork to fancy its consumer’s tastebuds. It’s the key piece missing from an otherwise perfect experience. I wish I hadn’t known the difference of a fresh pretzel for the sake of this review. I want to give them another star. I just can’t knowing that the experience could have been something...
Read moreThis place is obviously a neighborhood spot where the locals go. For people visiting in town, the wall menu is not so intuitive. Better to look up the menu online before you visit. We thought the Everything pretzel sandwich came with "everything" in it, but that's not the case. Instead, you choose the pretzel you want (i.e., plain, cinnamon & sugar, or everything) and/or the specific type of sandwich you want built within the pretzel. The bacon, egg, and cheese pretzel sandwich, which was delicious. Coffee is great and tastes fresh. None of that drip coffee rubbish. Service was OK, not great. Servers taking your order up front can be dismissive and impatient. If they can't hear you because it's loud inside, too bad for you, because your order won't be clarified and you may receive a wrong order. We would of course return, but be more prepared after reviewing the menu...
