This is a beautiful park, and it is perfect the way it is. But the city is going to ruin it. They have added an enormous flat screen tv to the side of the building that borders the park. While I was there, trying to relax and read in the grass, all I could hear were FOX News stories of shootings, hit and runs, our countries politics, etc. Those who come to a park like this, come to unwind and escape the hustle and bustle of the city. Maybe even to escape technology all together like myself. But they have now made that impossible to do here. I understand if the Widescreen were to be used for events, like baseball games, The World Cup, etc...But then turn it off! Or at least MUTE THE VOLUME - The news was playing so loud and echoing between the two buildings so drastically, I could barley hear my own thoughts (very "1984" if you ask me). They are trying to turn this place into another Piazza/Schmidt’s Commons...and we don't need it. Nor do I think many of us want it. And more importantly, don't bring the spirits of the people of this city down even more with violent and negative stories that play on the news without fail. There are children that visit this park. I would never want my child to look up in the sky, hoping to see the clouds and admire the city's skyscrapers...and instead see a graphic image of a crime scene where a college student was stabbed to death nearby. Depressing and horrifying. Cira Green has one of the best views in Philadelphia and offers people the opportunity to connect with nature, but folks will be unable to enjoy it now that there is a constant television stream being blasted in your face (Again, very "Big Brother-esq"). Once again, technology wins. And so do money making tactics. They are also adding a restaurant or beer garden I believe. Another way to make money, fine, I get it. People like to drink, so do I, especially outside on a summer's day. I just hope they stop themselves before they ruin the peace and quiet of this beautiful park. You want to watch TV, stay home. You want to get wasted, go to a bar. I visited Cira Green almost every weekend of my summer last year. This year, I went once, and I don't think i'll really...
Read moreDO NOT CONSIDER HOSTING YOUR PRIVATE EVENT HERE. We had the unfortunate experience of speaking to Jennifer about hosting our wedding rehearsal dinner here, which, by the way, took about 3 weeks to schedule due to missed appointments (obviously not by us). My fiance and I spent almost a decade in Philadelphia during medical school, and the location on the Schuykill was meaningful to us, hence it seemed the perfect venue with great views and an outdoor vibe, to welcome our guests, prior to our wedding the next day at the Please Touch Museum. We have truly enjoyed working with every local vendor for our wedding, and have had only positive experiences with EVERYONE ELSE, including the most coveted catering and decorators. Unfortunately, our conversation with Jennifer couldn't have been more rude and extremely abrupt. It was as if we should be paying her by the minute for every word she spoke. Not to mention, her interest in the night before our biggest day was subterranean at best. And then the logistical nightmare: for an event hosting 50 guests, seating would be provided for 15-20, on picnic tables. However, catering and venue fees would be charged per guest, regardless of him or her standing the whole time. In a city with iconic venues galore, we highly recommend venues hosted by either Constellation catering or Brulee. You'll be treated with enthusiasm, impeccable professionalism, and as if your event is their...
Read moreWent to Cira Green for movie night it was a different and great experience sitting outside picnic style with a community of people doing the same watching "Beatle Juice" on a big screen. Everyone had the same concept blankets, pillows and picnic baskets full of delicious snacks and food. There was also plenty of sitting areas if you didn't want to lay in the grass or you could bring your own chair and find a spot on the concrete area. There's a small restaurant on site which had a pretty long line but if you don't mind the wait you can purchase food like burgers, fries, chicken fingers and drinks mainly beers and wine they also offered a few premade cocktails which were priced based on the ambiance I guess. The bathrooms were clean for the most part and I loved watching the lil doggies play in the dog park area. The only problem I came across was they switched the close time the day we went but never changed it on their website so we were rushed out by security after the movie ended which was around 7:20pm but the website gave a closing time of 9pm. Other then that me and my family had a wonderful time check their website for various other events and go experience the...
