Stopped by yesterday, it was right after lunchtime but had not eaten (around 3 pm). Nobody else in the store. My wife and I perused the menu, which includes a sizable variety of hot and cold sandwiches but decided to leave without placing an order.
The reason We left is that as I scanned the menu board, I noticed too many flies in the establishment. I could see either five or six separate houseflies hopping around on different parts of the counter area.
It's very important to note, it's been along time since I've seen even a single housefly run amok in a restaurant or café. The reason for that is obvious, if the fly gets in to your restaurant you kill it as quickly as you can.
Multiple houseflies landing on counter areas in an empty restaurant are an automatic "fail" for me. At the absolute minimum, it means the employee(s) is/are not paying attention to sanitation. Also, anytime I see more than two flies, it raises the concern that there is an endemic issue and they didn’t just sneak in through the door.
I say this as someone who has managed multiple restaurants and cafés in his lifetime. Presence of flies in an empty restaurant is enough to turn around and walk out without giving a second thought.
It’s disappointing because the menu looks appealing and Rybread is just 3 blocks from home so it would have been an...
Read moreThe food here is amazing and service used to be nice, wife and I have ordered it once a month off and on over the past two-ish years as we live around the corner. However, I can no longer recommend them as they have taken a steep and sudden turn for the worse in almost all aspects.
Wife and I order the same sandwich every time, a buffalo panini with avocado and bacon. The last few times I've ordered this sandwich it's been warm-ish and soggy which I honestly don't mind. However this latest time, the chicken was outright cold.
I had ordered online 30 minutes prior, was told to show up at 12:30, I showed up at 12:26 and waited for my sandwich by the area as they were quite busy and I didn't mind waiting. Only I was informed that I had to get back in line to check in, and that they wouldn't start making my sandwich until then...only for the sandwich to come out while I was still in line 10 min later and with cold chicken to-boot! So they either lied about having to check in, didn't fully heat the chicken, or had it sitting all along and let it get cold during the duration. I was okay to wait as it was lunch time, I'm not okay with paying $30 and a nice tip to be handed a soggy, cold sandwich after being told to go get back in line...
Read moreMy partner and I recently visited a local breakfast spot, and while we spent around $30, the experience was a bit of a mixed bag. The standout of the meal? The hot chocolates. They were absolutely delicious—rich, creamy, and the perfect balance of sweetness. If you’re a fan of a good hot chocolate, this is definitely the place to get it.
For the food, my partner opted for a breakfast sandwich on a croissant. He found that the sandwich was mostly carried by the butter. For me, the eggs were over-peppered and lacked enough salt for seasoning. Unfortunately, the rest of the sandwich didn’t have much going for it flavor-wise.
The gluten-free options were a bit underwhelming, as the only option they seemed to offer was gluten-free bread, with little variety for those with dietary restrictions.
On a positive note, the café is clean, and the service was friendly and attentive. The staff made us feel welcome, which added a nice touch to the visit. However, unless we’re coming back just for the hot chocolate, we’re not sure...
