South Philly Ice — Restaurant in Philadelphia

Walked by randomly the night of April 3rd with my toddler while they had their soft opening. We didn’t intend on having ice cream that night but was just curious when grand opening day was since we’re excited to have a nice cream spot in the neighborhood. Come to find out it was their very first soft opening day! The gentlemen offered us free items to try. Of course my 3 year old was excited and asked for water ice. The strawberry lemon water ice was one of the best we had!

Fast forward to tonight. June 19th we finally had the time to stop by again. My daughter rode her balance bike from gold star park for some ice cream. I handed the ice cream to her without thinking she had to get off…she fell and dropped her cup of ice cream. The ice cream itself was still okay but the amazing south Philly Ice team was quick to catch what had happened and replace a new cup for her all while she was still in tears from falling off her bike. Needless to say I’m happy not only do we have an amazing tasting water ice/ ice cream store but we also are blessed with an amazing staff in the neighborhood.

Everyday I see atleast two of my neighbors walking through gold star with a cup/cone asking if we have tried South Philly Ice yet because they love it.

TLDR: Perfect summer treat in the Italian Market. Friendly service, great flavors, and the gelato mix-in is a must.

While waiting for our Angelo’s Pizza order, we took a stroll through the Italian Market and decided to grab a water ice from South Philly Ice. The shop has a convenient walk-up window with the menu posted front and center, making it easy to choose. The staff was super friendly and even angled their oscillating fan toward us while we ordered, kudos.

Our group of four tried wild cherry, black cherry, mango, and strawberry lemonade, all with vanilla gelato mixed in. Every flavor was great, but the black cherry took best in show. It had bits of real cherry skin that gave it amazing texture and flavor.

Refreshing, flavorful, and served with genuine Philly friendliness, South Philly Ice is exactly what you want on a hot summer afternoon. I’ll be back next time I’m in...

Incredible soft serve ice cream and delicious water ice with unique flavors. I almost don’t want to leave a review because I don’t want the secret to get out, but South Philly Ice deserves the public praise! Been looking forward to seeing this spot open and they did not disappoint. The soft serve is thick, creamy, and probably the best I’ve had in Philly. Reminds me of my childhood ice cream from local creameries in the suburbs, it’s that good.
