if you’re in search of a “third place,” and you love all things spooky, cozy, and a little unique- look no further. the grindhouse is an amazing place for reading, studying, socializing, playing games with friends (games provided by them), and of course enjoying amazing coffee.
i visited for the first time earlier this week and enjoyed the atmosphere so much i went back today. the first time i visited, me, the owner, an an employee were instantly enthralled in a conversation about harry potter. they had one of the movies playing on the tv and coincidentally i had come there with the intent of diving into the first book.
the caramel latte (my “test drink” for every new cafe i visit) was perfectly good, and they gave me a loyalty punch card. i stayed for a couple of hours and thoroughly enjoyed sitting silently enjoying my book.
today i went back and there were different employees, which were equally as kind and welcoming as the others. i got a cinnamon cappuccino that may be my new obsession. the espresso was rich, not bitter, and the milk was piping hot without being burned. the bathrooms are nice and tidy, and features complimentary feminine products- which gives them a lot of points in my opinion, especially when accompanied with the witty “shark week” box.
i was able to finish a lot of my school assignments as well as putting a dent in my book, thanks to the peaceful but upbeat atmosphere. there’s was a shift change during the roughly 3 hours i was there and i sparked a nice conversation with brandon, one of the baristas. to the owners- brandon is an awesome guy!
in summary, this cafe could very well put little old philly on the map for providing a one of a kind experience in a not so urban area. i’m a jackson transplant who’s been searching for a place that reminds me of home and i do believe i’ve found it. this place is for everyone, and sadly you cannot say that about many places in rural mississippi. keep up the great work. i hope to be enjoying many coffees and many books here in the...

The staff were very helpful and made great suggestions about what to order. I was just passing through Philadelphia, but I’d go out of my way to...
