Going to KISS here... made 2 trips to this establishment. Given the impression of being "related" to the original charlies location, which was on Rt 1 behind the IHOP, I had high hopes on their pies especially the Sicilian/grandma's pie. First trip, I only ordered a regular pie, only because the Sicilian are "limited" and needed to be order ahead of time. As for their regular pie, it was nice and crispy, but lacked in "airiness" and was too thin. The sauce was okay. For its price and first impression, the regular pie seems to be another imitation of some great places found in New Jersey/New York pizzerias. 3/5. Second trip, I ordered the Sicilian and garlic knots. The pie itself was nicely dense. However, it was lacking in the "airiness/fluff" and tomato sauce, making the dough tasted dry and a bit oily unlike the original charlies location on Rt 1 that I fell in love with. 2/5. As for the garlic knots, it was similar case to the Sicilian except the dough in the center was undercooked. Too dense, no "airiness/fluff" and flat, just butter and non existing spices(like garlic/parsley/oregano/basil). Overly expensive for something simple made from pizza dough leftovers. 1/5.
Overall, 2/5 not something someone should overhype for and drive +20 minutes for. It is just your typical neighborhood pizza, and if you are lucky to live by one. IMO I think the dough was not handled properly and that most of the air escaped during the rising phase, for BOTH pies. Maybe in the near future I will make a 3rd trip to give them another chance and...
Read moreMy mother and I were so EXCITED when we met the owner of the new store that we previously ate at he was so nasty. MY MOTHER AND I THANKED HIM NUMEROUS TIMES AND HE SAID YEAH WHATEVER. My family and I grew up close to the original store that was in somerdale off of Roosevelt boulevard. I came back today to the new store in morrell for the first time in over 30 years my mother was looking so forward to taking me here and experience and have a core childhood memory. The second I got in to order the phenomenal Pizza I was raised on this pie. Was met with a grumpy man who was extremely hostile the place and my 70-year-old mother . The place. STORE is dirty it is not the same vibe.YO BUD PLEASE WASH YOU'RE HANDS WHILE PREPARING MY MOTHER'S PIZZZA AFTER HANDLEING NO WASHED HANDA AND YOUR PHONE IN HAND bud. By the way instead of being on your phone it might take a little bit of time to maybe clean up the kids high chairs your bathroom and everything else man. Absolutely pathetic. Heading to CVS to get some Imodium AD for the diarrhea that's going to be caused from this 9-day-old 7-Eleven fake...
Read moreNegative reviews from failed competitors do not count. Seriously delicious pizza, very similar to Vince's on Grant Avenue (the original owners were cousins). A thousand times better than the chains and even most of Philly's mom-and-pop shops. Tons of flavor. Always add extra cheese for the very best taste. Experiment with the other toppings to find your favorite combination. We prefer the sausage, pepperoni, bacon, and steak, all of which are high grade and incredibly fresh. But again, extra cheese is a must if you like dairy. And wow, is it creamy! The sauce and mushrooms are canned but still taste great because they are cooked properly (to a very high temperature). The dough is made fresh daily and you can taste it. Like all businesses, do not be rude to the staff or they will give it back to you. They are not in business to tolerate your abuse. You might as well buy the large because it costs only $1 more and you can refrigerate the leftovers. It still tastes great if reheated...
