My first time going to Yakitori Boy won't be the last. I made a reservation for 2 at 8:15pm on Friday. We arrived an hour early and were seated promptly - it wasn't very busy. The decor inside was a little old. It has a rustic, Japanese feel to it. The menu is viewed through a QR code and drink orders are taken quickly. The food ... oh my gosh - the food was so good! We ordered miso soup, sweet potato tempura, unagi nigiri, kani nigiri, salmon scallion skewer, bacon quail egg skewer, pork belly skewer, eggplant skewer, ribeye skewer, chicken karaage, and grilled squid. Everything but the squid (tough & chewy, not served with tentacles) was just phenomenal! In my experience, many Japanese places that don't specialize in sushi have so-so sushi. It wasn't the case here. The rice was fluffy & light. The fish-to-rice ratio was very healthy as well. Miso soup was rich and delicious. The scallions were fresh. There wasn't any seaweed at the bottom like most places have. Of the skewers, the most notable to me were the bacon wrapped quail eggs & salmon scallion. The salmon had a very thin layer of crispy skin; I've never eaten the skin on a fish before and it was so much tastier than I expected with a wonderful texture. The quail eggs were soft boiled. Really, it was quite a delicious meal. If I ordered a reasonable portion rather than a veritable smorgasbord with three cocktails, I assume the bill would be well under $100. Being located in Chinatown means there's no parking, but I'd happily walk three blocks for another quail skewer.

Decided to try this place during our visit for a bite before a show. This place was hard to find. The building was not labeled well. It was a lot smaller than I expected. We were quickly seated within a few minutes. We did have reservations. Waitress was the absolute best! She was super attentive and checked on us a lot. Each dish was brought pretty quick. We ordered: - The chicken wings which were fried crunchy and seasoned good. We enjoyed them. - We also ordered meatball kabobs which were ok. - About the steak and chicken kabobs - I typically like my meat cooked or grilled a little longer. The steak was ok but when I bit into the chicken, I had to remove it from my mouth and I asked them to take the chicken back to cook the chicken a little longer. She did. It was much better cooked a bit longer. - bacon wrapped quail eggs were like hard boiled eggs wrapped in bacon. Husband enjoyed them. -Spicy chicken noodle bowl my daughter ordered was flavorful with the veggies being more spicy but not unbearable. She liked her dish. - Chicken rice and broccoli was good. -The spring rolls come in 2s were small but tasty. - the fried dumplings were tasty -The crÚme brûlée vanilla cake was good. Bar on the first floor. Street parking. We were a little disappointed that we did not have time in our schedule to to try the karaoke offered here upstairs.

Very accomadating... I went with 10 ppl (5 adults, 4 16yo, 1 4yo) for my daughters 16th bday. they had booked us in a room that was big enough for 8-10ppl, but when I saw the size of it I asked if there were any other rooms available. Jessica showed us our options and for an extra$15 per hour were upgraded and it was a good decision. The deal was if we spent $60 per hour in food, the room ($40/hr) was free... and we got that easily (our check was $290 incl tip) Sunday nights are the only nights under 21yo can go into the karaoke rooms. We made a 3 hour res and it was perfect to eat and have enough time to sing! We were able to bring in our own cake too. The food was ok, lots to choose from and quick to appear, I just didn't think it was special. The atmosphere was the real star. Lots of songs to choose from, but some of them were true karaoke where another artist sang the song and some didn't offer the background vocals at all but for the most part every song we wanted was available. The system was a little complicated but the waitress (and rick) were more than happy to repeat instructions. I'd definitely do this again... we're had an amazing time. The employees (Alexa I think) were really helpful over the phone when I was planning... and they were even better in person.

So I come here at least once every time I come back to Philly when I'm away. It has two floors: the first level is its restaurant and the second is its lounge + karaoke rooms. Both levels have a bar. It's a great place to hang out with friends for a dinner or for a night to have fun at the lounge.

Entertainment This is the reason for me giving it the 4/5 rating. This is one of the only few places in center city Philly that provides groups of parties their own private karaoke rooms. The prices are very affordable, especially if a group uses the free room promotion (buy enough drinks/food that cover double the hourly fee; use to be just the same amount, but not anymore). If you don't want to book a private room, the lounge is always fun. There is always people out singing their hearts out, which makes it super fun and hilarious. The con to entertainment, though, is that now it gets so packed that you have to book a table or room during the weekends, or you won't be able to get up there. Bar selection is decent; they have many drinks and house drinks as well. Definitely try the Tokyo Tea; a few of these can get you pretty tipsy.

Food The food is pretty good. The prices vary from inexpensive to expensive depending on what you want to order. The daily specials they have are somewhat cheap, but selections are very limited. I usually come on Sushi or Skewer nights, because they are mad cheap. I love the quail egg, chicken, chicken and scallion, and the pork sausage skewers. As for taste, it's not the best I've eaten around in terms of Japanese food, but the selection is huge. You can also order food from both levels.

Service Hosting is great and.. controlling? If you would like to go upstairs, they are really thorough with you in restaurant procedures and policies. Definitely great at the lower level restaurant. They come just enough so they don't really bother you, but are still attentive of you. As for upstairs, it tends to be confusing. If you're at the lounge and want food, you sometimes have no idea who your server is and you just have to approach staff. Sometimes, they're no where to be found and you might just have to approach a bouncer or the person controlling the lounge karaoke. Bar staff is sometimes short, and you really have to push through to grab drinks. Having your own room is good, since there is a call button. If it gets busy though, they might take forever to come. Different servers take care of you too, so be sure not to order the same thing twice. Making reservations is also very thorough; they'd like to call you twice

Recommendations: Order From Food Specials, Make Reservations For Upstairs Prior Pros: Great atmosphere, very fun, friendly people Cons: Somewhat expensive for things,...

Came here for a friends birthday dinner on a Saturday night the downstairs restaurant was great we had dinner n it was really affordable bill came up to 300 for 7 people. We then went upstairs to the karaoke bar....it was sooo packed we only had standing room upon exiting the elevator and it was over an hour wait to request a song at the bar .... Feeling so costrofobic we attempted to sit down at 1 of all the empty booths we were quickly informed that we were not allowed to sit unless we were spending a minimum $50 per hr per table..... we then decided to rent a private karaoke room for $50 an hour for the 7 of us which was very reasonable an much more comfortable. The Karaoke song selection was mediocre but we enjoyed ourselves with a round of shots....At the end of the night we promptly paid the bill an was notified by our server that he had accidentally changed our card for another room an then attempted to avoid that transaction an charge the card for our room upon doing so he cause the bank to recognize the card as fraud and the card declined. He then returned to the room an explained his mistake. He then requested that we present him with another card so that we did not have to involve his manager for his mistake....Attempting to b understanding we presented him with another card an informed him we would not be tipping for the inconvenience of the declined card which would not be able to be disputed until Monday... the server kindly obliged ut when he returned with the bill he had added gratuity....we then went to the manager to explain the situation and the server also agreed about his mistake we only wanted to pay the total bill without the gratuity due to the servers mistake....The manager then proceeded to tell us that we had to pay the bill an was completely RUDE an disrespectful and due to the discrepancy ended up ruining my friends entire night due to the argument. Never Again worst birthday night ever he needs a serious lesson in customer...

Yakitori Boy is probably best known for its upstairs Karaoke bar. Lots of fun can be had singing the night away. However, recently I discovered just how delicious some of their food offerings are as well.

To be honest, their menu is a bit overwhelming. Lots of choices from a variety a styles. If you 'don't know what you're hungry for', you might be in trouble. On the flip side, if you like a spread, you will be set.

We opted to mix and match. We ended up with a salad, a few skewers, sushi, tempura, and even a beef dish. I'll highlight my experience, but recommend you experiment on your own a bit too.

We wanted a salad and they all looked good, so had a dish that had a little of everything in the California Soba Salad. Portioned big enough to share for two or small enough to be taken down solo, I loved the crab and seaweed mixed with the soba noodles.

I feel skewers are a personal preference dish. However, you really should try the chicken skin (so crisp). We also had the bacon and quail egg and chicken heart skewers. I like how you can easily order individuals skewers until you fill up.

Their sushi game was on point. The he-man roll with crab was on the specials list and amazing. The sensei's sashimi was great as I was expecting the standard tuna, salmon, white fish but instead got so more unique fair (along with Ika and Octopus). Just check my photo. Absolutely get the Negi Toro, two pieces priced to move!

Rounding our dinner out, the soft shell crab tempura was breaded perfectly. The beef negimaki was good and plentiful. Honestly, portions for all the dishes were great.

I'll leave you with a pair of key words: Happy Hour. Lychee-tini for $6?!? Yes please. Plenty of food specials for HH as well. It runs 5 to 7pm so check it out to save a...
