The Chinatown Friendship Arch in Philadelphia is a stunning cultural landmark that embodies both history and artistry. Located at 10th and Arch Streets, this iconic gateway is one of the largest traditional Chinese arches outside of China, making it a must-see attraction for locals and visitors alike. Built in 1984 as a gift from Philadelphia's sister city, Tianjin, the arch symbolizes friendship and cultural exchange. Its vibrant colors, intricate details, and traditional Chinese architectural design make it a captivating sight. Each element of the arch, from the glazed tiles to the carved dragons, tells a story of Chinese heritage and craftsmanship. Walking through the arch feels like entering a different world, with Chinatown’s bustling streets, authentic eateries, and unique shops creating an atmosphere rich in culture and history. The arch also serves as a focal point for celebrations such as the Chinese New Year, bringing the community together in a vibrant display of tradition and pride. Whether you're taking photos, learning about its history, or simply enjoying the surrounding area, the Chinatown Friendship Arch is a beautiful reminder of the diversity and cultural richness that Philadelphia has to offer. It’s an essential stop for anyone...

Chinatown was barely visited. I will be back. From there we meander the market, laughing and enjoying the commotions going on. That was fun, bring $$$, allot of fresh meat that are probably fresher than a normal market and better.
Steve and Deb had been a few days at hotel a block away, so they visited many of the sights, however we 3 amigo’s found part of Chinatown, and the African American museum. The museum is a bit thin on material, but for historical has some thought-provoking displays.
Were a bit older now, Deb and Steve both retired, don’t move as fast, Deb recovering from one knee. But I so enjoyed the company and memory lanes. I forgot how poor we were back then, and Steve and Deb marrying on 25 cent rings from the gum machines. True and they are happier and stronger as a couple. I admire this, as marriage eluded my dreams and perhaps that is life for me. 😊
We stopped in China town for a snack, Steve some lamb, I had pork, and hot n sour, Deb some rice. Frankly I would have gone to the little hole in the ground under the shop. It was a snack. Back to Reading as I had to get some donuts. Deb knee was bothering her, and we decided to go for Italian restaurant, and round the...
Read moreThe first time I went a few years ago, I was completely amazed. Everything was in perfect shape, colorful, everything like new. However this time around 2023, I was excited to show this place to my son, only to be shocked on how it has not been maintained, for example, the Friendship Arch in Chinatown, is peeling and decaying at its bases, two different colors of red paint, horrible patchwork, not uniform. If this represents Chinatown in Philly, the Community Association needs to be doing a better job maintaining this Arch for visitors like me, I expect the best, not things that are crumbling. I noticed less restaurants were active, maybe that's the end product of covid destroying cities and Pop&mom businesses, that part no one can control. I hope in time, the restaurants can recover, that was one of the draws coming to Chinatown Philly, the variety of food and restaurants. However, I did notice a lot of construction and rebuilding going on in Philly, maybe I'll return in the future and re-write the review, when...
