Came here during the holidays. TLDR: Got Tip chased on a holiday for sub par service and food.
I was here with my family and my little niece. Wait time there was about 20-30 minutes which we knew was going to happen so we waited. Everyone was waiting and was fine.
We got placed at a table at the stage and we thought it was weird since there was one on the stage and there was no way to navigate around with how clustered everyone was. We got to the table like they asked but the workers never cleared the table. There was still food left over on the cover and was clearly just finished eating on.
Had to keep my niece's hand off the table since we didn't know what the stains were. We waited about 10 minutes until one of the old workers (which was a lot of them) noticed and started clearing things out for us. My cousin asked for some water and we got tea. She never got that water and we used our water bottles we had packed for her since the whole meal no one got to us.
We then waited and none of the carts were near us and sadly we had to step down on the stage to get the food and hear them. We spoke Vietnamese but I don't think there was many Vietnamese speaker there. So we spoke in English which was fine for anyone that was younger but was very disconnected with the conversation even for the area that this restaurant is in. Food was okay at best, some were hot, some were mildly warm. No one really flagged us down to ask if we wanted food or were just so slow with the carts that we had to eat extremely slow. Only a few times we had people step on the stage for us to get it.
So if you see stage seats just tell them no.
My mom wasn't as happy, she use to work in the food service industry, and told us not to tip too high since everything was sub par. She is the type that would give money to homeless people and double tips so I was shocked to hear her say this. So we left a $5 tip for our meal, yes I know that's low but it was for my mom's day. So we end up leaving and my mom went to the bathroom. I paid and came outside and waited with my family. One of the younger guys, with a gold vest, came out and looked for us. He said we never tipped so he was asking us to tip, CLEARLY HOLDING THE 5 DOLLARS SINCE I FOLD MY MONEY A CERTAIN WAY. So he came out demanded us money or would stick around until we paid up. My niece looked concerned so her mom gave him some money and he walked off.
Never have I ever been tip chased. None of my family members ever got tip chased. We paid and we were fine just leaving it without any bad reviews but this was one of those times I can't let it slide. For the service it was not worth the money or time/headache to get food during the holidays. I know holidays are bad but sometimes you just got to keep in mind that having an ok moments is better than...
Read moreMy family have been coming here for over a decade. It's my favorite dim sum place to go to Chinatown because of the memories I've had with family and friends.
The food has always been excellent and I enjoy the atmosphere. However, the service has always been rough. It's been good and then there are times it could be better. This time around I had to say something because this was the worst and I really hope that others don't deal with this.
I went with my brother and mother for brunch, where it was busy, but there was enough staff to handle the bustle. What was problematic this time around was it felt like our table was being purposely ignored. Everytime we tried to get a server they would ignore us and it took the third server to get to us and then we never got the help we needed. So to leave, it took an extra half an hour when it didn't need to. We had bigger bills on us and not enough to pay the 20% tip we like to leave. So to pay, we were trying to get change for the tip, so my mom went to go pay the bill and then break her bigger bills.
One of the servers, finally had time to notice our table, took the small bills on our table to go argue with my mom and the cashier that we're not giving them a big enough tip for the bill we owe. My mom tried to explain she was trying to pay and leave a correct amount of tip but they wouldn't listen to her. Finally, she handed a $20 and paid the bill. They gave none of her change back and kept everything on the table too. That was a 30% tip.
Which to me is unacceptable, you ignored us and our dining experience. Made us feel unwelcomed and then had the nerve to decide what was a good enough tip for you. I'm sorry but tip is not mandatory for restaurants. Tips are are for performing great service. I'm just lucky that my family raised us to tip at least 20% because we know what it is like to jobs that never pay enough. Especially now, so I'm disappointed from this.
I hope things get better but unfortunately I will never...
Read moreDespite the restaurant's name, this is not a sushi place! This is a dim sum restaurant!!
I dined in with my friends for lunch on a Sunday. No reservation made in advance. The wait time was about 5 minutes. The dim sum carts are on the floor until 3pm.
The place is always noisy and busy, even chaotic and confusing if it's your first time dining in. There is no menu posted anywhere that you can look. The servers push dim sum carts around the floor and stop by each table. You can ask for any dish from the cart that catches your eye.
Only a handful of servers can speak English; most of them speak Cantonese. If you are new to dim sum and have a Cantonese speaking friend, bring them with you so that they can help you choose which dishes to try!
Very very limited vegetarian options! If you are a vegan or vegetarian, this place is not at all recommended. A lot of dishes contain pork. Some seemingly vegetarian dishes may also contain or have been cooked with meat or fish sauce.
The servers here can be quite blunt -- you may see a server almost flinging your tea cup and plate at you when setting the table for you--, but they don't mean to be rude. I think that's just their mannerism.
A pot of got green tea is served as default. If you want cold water, you have to ask for it.
Wheelchair NOT accessible. There is a flight of stairs in the entrance, but no elevator or ramp.
The restroom is located in the basement.
Since this is located in Chinatown, parking is virtually impossible to find. If you are lucky, you might find paid street parking. There are private parking lots around Chinatown, but some of them can be ridiculously expensive, so...
