The food was really good. The ingredients were very fresh and tasty. But I felt like the appetizer was a total scam in the way it was done.
We were given 5 tiny squared pita pieces to eat the dip and get charged extra for more pita — the dip takes more than 5 pieces to eat. Therefore, you are charged more money than initially announced just to eat your plate. It felt scammy. Especially for what is already a $13.50 tiny appetizer plate. Like I said, the ingredients were fresh and tasty, so I could have understood the price, but charging me extra to have enough pita to eat over half of the dip is RIDICULOUS. I wouldn’t be surprised if they charge for fork and knife, or a glass to pour your drink, in the future.
As I left, I told the owner how I felt about this very politely, and he had a decent bit of attitude. I spent 50$ in your business, tell me I’m wrong, tell me it’s industry standard, take the $1.50 off, or disagree… but why are you “buddy”ing me when I’m paying your bills? Just off or that I wouldn’t be coming back.
The blonde girl that served us is excellent and I made sure to tell the boss that as well. 6 out of 5 stars to her, for sure.
In the end, the the tactic I mentioned (giving insufficient pita to then charge extra to be able finish your appetizer, and the owner with attitude after spending $50 at his spot) hindered what would otherwise be a standout Philly experience that I would have recommended to everybody.
EDIT: Looking at the photos here, everyone seems to have gotten more bread than we got. We also had some English-speakers next to us with a FULL basket instead of a tiny plate with 5 pieces. I’m not upset about the 1.50$, rather, it’s about treating paying customers with respect...
Read moreThe most authentic Greek food in Philadelphia! I have eaten in the restaurant many times and Zorba's catered my wedding - a total of 300 guests on July 8th 2017. Every dish was perfect and delicious.
Nikos was professional throughout the entire 4 months of planning. He was responsive, accommodating to all of my requests and consulted with me to produce the best menu for our wedding. Nikos made sure the right amount of food was prepared; there were ample portions of every dish for all guests on the night of our wedding. Pricing was reasonable too. Our family and friends still rave about the food. Leg of Lamb, Soutzoukakia, Chicken Avgolemono, Imam Baldi, Pilaf, Salad, Hummus, Artichoke Salad, and Spanakopita. We will never forget the delicious taste of the lamb and meatballs. We will never forget our amazing experience with Zorba's Tavern. We are happy to have chosen Zorba's and we highly recommend it! We recommend it especially to anyone looking to have alternative cuisine at a wedding, Armenian Weddings, Greek Weddings, Turkish Weddings, or any...
Read moreΓεια σου Ζορμπά! WHAT A JOKE!!! Sad Disappointment in Greek Restaurant "Zorbas". I went there 3 times with friends, and we will not return anymore. The Grill Platter on their menu is great in taste, though don't expect rice and potatoes to be enough for this 2-person dish, even for 1 it is ridiculously small. Avoid ordering the "Zeus" platter. Ordered the 2-person cold appetizer "Zeus", and the 2-person warm appetizer "Calamari etc." on their menu. Zeus would be ashamed. Just terrible! It is so small and presented with such a disgust, and costs over $22, that it is best to just stick to the Grill Platter (not the lamb grill platter). 3 visits because we were decently satisfied with their atmosphere (looks like a townhouse 1st floor and is very cozy, though mind the AC units that are always on and blast your food cold within 15 minutes), but with the last visit, we will NOT come back. If you know Greece and Greek culture and cuisine, "Zorbas" offers little authenticity. BYOB gives it a star, Grill Platter gives it two stars....
