I ordered a Buffalo chicken Stromboli with certain instructions, not only was it not made to my desire it wasn't made as described and had some odd tangy hot sauce. I decided to give it another go however I tried a cheese calzone this time simple as can be. Haha so I thought!! Come to find out it literally mozzarella and bread. I call up and ask them why there is no ricotta cheese the young man tells me "they don't make it with ricotta" so I read him his menu and he proceeds to tell me, " Oh, boy, they have to update our menus. Yes we no longer make it with ricotta but I can put some in a dish for you if you want to come back and get it" SERIOUSLY these are not cheep menu items and it doesn't get more simpler than a cheese calzone. That's what a calzone is mozzarella ricotta and bread sauce on the side. You cant just eliminate the main ingredients. Should have been refunded at the least made a new one!! Very disappointed
I am a regular visitor to Philadelphia and was fortunate to find ZuZu's Kitchen during my recent trip there over the holidays. This particular takeout-restaurant is brand new and appears to have an experienced, friendly, international chef (Adel), who is familiar with the city and its restaurant industry. Through casual conversation, it became clear to me that Adel takes great care in the preparation of unique, hand-made, delicious and wholesome menu items. This place will make an excellent addition to the neighborhood and city in the years to come. Having ordered twice from this place I enjoyed the tender and moist Buffalo-Chicken Wrap, the double-paddie Cheeseburger and ZuZu's unique special pizza. All were delicious, made with fresh ingredients and relatively inexpensive. These fairly common items have to be some of the best tasting sandwiches in the city. The specialty pizza speaks for itself and I considered it to be one of the best that I have ever eaten. My only complaint is that this restaurant is not located closer to the northern Virginia/DC Metro area so that I could enjoy it...
   Read moreHell yeah, Zuzu's.
Where to even begin with this place? While often solid, it is deeply inconsistent. No meal is likely to be the same twice which can definitely be annoying.
PIZZA: It's decent! The crust seems to change regularly, but overall the sauce and cheese game is strong. You can get a medium (the closest they have to a small) pizza for about 10 bucks and sadly I can eat these in a sitting.
CHEESESTEAK: Pretty meh! Look, I love these guys, but these are easily the weakest part of their rotation. The meat and cheese are largely solid, but the inexplicable aspect here is the bread. It is trash. It's never toasted and it is low grade garbage. This city has the best sandwich bread on the planet. There's no excuse for this.
ZUZU'S CHICKEN SAMMY: Fantastic except for the bread (see above)
THE WILD CARD - VEGAN ETHIOPIAN FOOD: Holy shit this is Zuzu's ace in the hole. Not only is it affordable takeout, but it's some of the best Ethiopian food I've ever had. The siro wat is...
