I received a random follow request on IG from Taco & Dilla Parlor and that's really the reason we decided to check them out.
LOCATION: Right out of the gate the location is a bit tough to work with, parking is scarce and if you're not a fan of strip malls then you'll probably way to steer clear. Getting past that, inside is a lot bigger than I was expecting, there's plenty of room to sit and the decide is what you might expect from an urban, Mexican spot. Luchador paintings mixed with some religious imagery
FOOD: in order to be sure we could provide a fair & balanced review, we waited to make sure the sample size was adequate. We ordered
•Tacos- 2 pollo, 2 carnitas, 2 shrimp 2 asada •Dillas- Mac Daddy ( Mac & Cheese w/ Chorizo) •Chips & Guac •Mango Madness & a Lemonade
Here's the breakdown: Pollo tacos were a little bland. The serving was very generous but the seasoning seemed to be lacking. Carnitas we're along the same lines, and little on the dry side. Still, a good crisp to them and with salt and lime, they were not bad. Shrimp was good, especially if you get some with a lite char to them. Carne Asada were by far the best tacos (which is huge) as the staple of tacos, it was important to get these right and they did a great job. Juicy and tender meat, good seasoning and just enough char. When it comes to the best thing we ordered; Mac Daddy Dilla takes the crown! These unique take on a quesadilla was packed with flavor, the Mac was cooked just right, the Chorizo was spicy and moist, the jack cheese added another lauernof slat and spice that tied everything together. They do offer Dillas with all of the taco meats so if you're one that appreciates flavorful cuisine (like me) I would say that's the way to go.
VERDICT: Taco & Dilla Parlor seems to be very much in a growing phase and like any new business it's experiencing some growing pains. However, there also seems to be a lot of potential here and with a few solid items on the menu I would definitely recommend giving them a try. I will confess that there is a lot of "negative" remarks in this review, but I wanted to be sure that I highlighted the positives so I'm giving them 4 stars because I really think they have the...
Read moreI have been here a bunch of times. This last time was worth a review because of how friendly the staff was. I have always had a positive experience there but this time was even better. They also have a whole vegan menu which is why this is one of our go-to spots. My BF and I went in on Memorial Day and got there right when they opened. I tried to order my go-to drink which is the the Dragons Blood Margarita and the waiter let me know that they didn’t have all of the ingredients to make it. He then offered to make me a margarita using some Jamaica. It was so delicious! I hope they add that drink to the menu because I would love to order it again. For food, we decided to order the vegan beyond impossible dilla and the vegan hot chick. I’m still undecided on which one was my favorite. The vegan hot chick was as if you turned a Buffalo cauliflower wrap into a quesadilla. It comes with a side of ranch which is such a nice touch. The vegan beyond impossible was packed with tons of flavor. The green chiles are a nice touch. My favorite part of their dillas is their signature crispy cheese that lines the tortilla. They use Daiya cheese for anyone who is particular about their vegan cheese. I usually do not like Daiya but they make it work! I love this spot! It’s definitely worth...
Read moreDilla Libre Uno offers a mix of hits and misses. I tried the Dragons Blood Margarita; while not unpleasant, it didn’t quite hit the mark for my taste. The bar’s design is questionable, with drink preparation occurring at the far end and front of the bar, suggesting a lack of bar experience in its design.
I had the Chupacabra Burrito, which was fresh and enjoyable, though it could benefit from more authentic Spanish flavors. Additionally, the tortilla chips were lacking freshness, and the salsa could have used more spice. I also tried their habanero sauce, but it didn’t deliver the heat I was hoping for. The pricing was a bit steep, even during happy hour, which might not justify the cost for some.
The establishment seems to aim for a refined and gourmet Mexican bar and grill experience, but the decor didn’t quite align with this ambition, feeling cluttered despite an organized approach. On the plus side, the service was excellent and the staff was friendly. Overall, there’s potential here, but some improvements in both ambiance and value could enhance...
