Grew up in the neighborhood right behind the location so my family and I have been to Edens Grill on several occasions now.
First off I like to say a few things I found over our several visits to here is how much me and my family love that this small, cozy, hidden gem is a rare find in a resort town like Phoenix/Scottsdale nowadays. The same Greek family has owned the restaurant the entire time its been there with grandma making her AMAZING rice in the back, while her kids are out taking care of the 10 tables this small venue has. It is as authentic as your going to be able go find when it comes to a greek restaurant in the southwest US from the bickering in greek going on in the kitchen as backround noice to the mouthwater lamb and baklava thats being served to you.
Now while I've never done anything but reccomend this restaurant in the highest reguards to my friends, co workers, and family. I have to share that my most recent trip to Edens Grill was for my Dad's birthday on the 19th of March thsi past week and while i hadnt been here for about 2 years its like I was at a different place altogether and sadly not in a good way. First off when we arrived the place was full except for one table outside (place usually does require a reservation to ensure a table here inside during prime dinner time so no complaints there) but once we sat ourselves out front we were never noticed until we got our servers attention. Right when that happened a table had just freed up inside we noticed so we asked if we could move to it before ordering drinks and appetizers. We were told yes and moved. After 20 minutes we realized we were forgotten again. Once we finally ordered our drinks we stated we would also like to order some appetizers as we were getting very hungry by this point (with a combined total of 35 min of wait time to finally get the drink order in) our waiter said ok lemme grab a pen and pad to write your order down (odd a server wouldnt have that on them to begin with) and left. Now while we expected him to return within 2 minutes TOPS to take our appatizers we sat confused and puzzled for another 10-15 minutes with our server truly disappearing. At this point we grabbed the only other server working (remember very small family owned place) which is also his wife and asked where our waiter is and if we could just order with her as we are starving and its getting later into thw evening than we planned at this point. Once we finally got our appatizers and meals ordered with her (which she has to come back 3 times to confirm all 3-4 minutes apart because she would not write anything down) we were then informed that they were out of Lamb which is what my Dad ordered and for him to choose something else. We were kinda bummed by this as it was his birthday and he chose here for that dish that he enjoys because it is very delicious but understood this sometimes though rarely (Mom runs a restaurant with 2 locations in DC Ranch and Old Town Scottsdale so know the business) can occur. Now my order my Dads and our other 2 guests dishes are all coming out when we are informed that they are also out of the beef my mother ordered as well and waited to tell her until they were setting down our dishes! At this point were all getting a little annoyed here so we orders a salad so itd be fast and we can finish this meal and head out being that its getting late now and while they live down the street i live on the other side of the valley and neede to be up for work at 5 but while we were finally all eatting and trying to enjoy at least the end of the meal we are asked if done MULTIPLE times, are being literally cleaned up around so close that when they wipe the tables the food his falling onto my shoes and are almost hovering us to be able to instantly appear with a check to get us out... Mind you its still and HOUR till close but are turning people away stating "Sorry were closed early now, no more food". Don't know if it was just bad night or what but was a whole new...
Read moreUpdate 2022- Unfortunately, we wonât be back. The food has been slowly going downhill like so many places. Food has little to no flavor and we get the big meal to share with lots of options. It was a lot of food, but bland. The owners seemed to be different and not so lively or attentive.
We love this place, I wish it had a location by us. We havenât been in a year, but we usually go once a year because itâs a long drive. The sisters that own it are hilarious & inviting. Food is amazing, I will say last time the rice & chicken was not as awesome as it used to be, but good. Beef kabobs, kefta kabobs, baba Ganoosh, hummus, & rice, are all my favorites and all food is authentic. My hubby gets the gyro usually or sometimes we get the mixed platters to share which I highly recommend. The dinner portions are large. Leftovers still really tasty! Any way you can get a second location in SE valley? ...
